What Is A Borescope?
It’s Friday night and you are bored to death. You keep sinking deeper and deeper into your couch like its quicksand while you eat stale Cheetos that you found in the back of your cupboard.
You keep flipping the channels, but there really is nothing good on; until you turn to a channel where they’re showing a live medical surgery. You spit out your Cheetos and almost gag when you see what they’re doing to the patient, but for some reason you don’t change the channel; you’re hooked.
You cringe even more when you see that they are sliding a small wire into the patient’s body. What is that thing?
You keep your eyes glued to the tube and figure out that there is a camera on the end of the wire, and that the doctor can see further inside the patient’s body as he moves the wire! You didn’t even know that that was at all possible!
No, you weren’t watching an episode of Star Trek on the science fiction channel. That technology is reality, and is Cialis Jelly some of the most state-of-the-art technology there is in the medical industry.
Doctors call this little contraction an endoscope, and have been using it for quite a while now. But what some people don’t know is that wire cameras such as the endoscope are being used in fields other than medicine these days.
These cameras can be used to probe car, or diesel engines. They can even be used by firearm repairman to look down the barrel of a rifle or a gun!
While doctors call them endoscopes, in other fields this little device is referred to as a borescope. Here is some basic information about the borescope that will help you understand this amazing invention:
A borescope is comprised of three basic parts: an eyepiece, an objective lens, and a rigid or flexible tube that connects the two first parts. The tube is laced in optical fibers that can illuminate the object being looked at, thereby making it easier to see.
The borescope is placed in the machine that the viewer wants to look inside of. Once they find the object they are looking for, the objective lens on the end of the tube forms an image of the object.
The image then travels through the tube, being illuminated by the optical fibers encased in the tube. The image comes out the other end of the eyepiece, where it is magnified so that the viewer can see it easier.
Borescopes are an amazing invention because they can go where nothing else can go. When dealing with tiny pieces of machinery, it is almost possible to fit fingers into holes or to see small parts with the naked eye.
This is why they are so beneficial. It enables any worker to easily see inside of a small machine, whether they need to repair something or just to check the overall layout or look of a part that can otherwise not be reached.
There are two types of borescopes: rigid and flexible. Each one is used for different purposes.
Flexible borescopes, which are sometimes called fiberscopes, are movable tubes that can maneuver around bends, curves, or any other obstructions that the viewer might encounter while looking in a machine. This type does have one downfall though.
They have a bundle of fibers that transfer the image into pixels. Sometimes the images that the viewers see will be of low quality because of the pixels.
A camera with more fibers needs to be purchased in order to have a higher quality image. The other type is called the rigid borescope.
These can only travel in a straight line so its viewing capabilities are limited, but usually they have a higher resolution that that of flexible ones. The proper type of scope depends on the machinery that you need to inspect.
In the past several years, there have been considerable improvements to borescopes. Now some of the highest technology is being applied so that they can go farther and can have higher quality images than any before them.
