Getting Organized After the Holidays
The holidays are full of hectic schedules brought on by the balancing of work, shopping, and spending time with family and your home can really suffer from a bad case of disorganization because of it. Decorations and their boxes all over the house, wrapping paper and Viagra Jelly bows with nowhere to go, and presents that will barely fit under the tree combined with more people than usual running through the house adds up to a bit of chaos in the home. This is why many individuals look forward to the days after the holidays when they can reorganize their homes and get them back in the order that they are used to. When it comes to putting away all those decorations and wrapping supplies and organizing all of your new gifts though there are a few key items you will want in order to make it easier on yourself. Just a few simple tools to organize your stuff and a good day to get to work is all you will need to get yourself, your family, and your household organized after the holidays.
The first thing you need in order to get organized is something to put all of your stuff in. Torn boxes, bags, and broken containers hardly make for good organization. You should invest in some plastic totes of various sizes for the best possible organization. The different sizes of these allows you to not take up anymore space for one thing type of thing than you have to and they are great because they can be easily stacked on top of each other or slipped under a bed. Often after the holidays you can find these for as little as five to ten dollars a piece and you only need a few to get you going. Not only will this help organize but it will also make taking everything back out next year much easier.
Nest you will want to get rid of all the trash that builds up from the holidays. Paper, cardboard, and other things give the impression of clutter even if you don’t really have a lot of clutter in your home. Be sure not to miss garbage day after the holidays or make a plan to go to the dump to get rid of all that holiday trash.
It is also important to make room for the new stuff that you are keeping. Clean out your closets, drawers, and other storage areas of the stuff you’re rarely or never use and your home will seem much more clutter free than is you have stuff bursting out of its storage places.
Finally, you should give your home a good cleaning. It may seem that cleaning doesn’t reduce clutter but it definitely reduces the impression of clutter. Clean in every room and every spot in order to make your home seem even more clutter free.
Make your home comfortable after the holidays by getting it organized and you will not only have less to do when spring comes but you will find your home more enjoyable as well.
