There is an amorphous silicon solar cell behind the dial that charges a titanium lithium-ion rechargeable secondary battery. It takes one minute of sunlight to run the watch for a day, but the battery, once fully charged, will work for up to 16 months, depending on the model, without ever seeing the light of day.
