How To Recognize The Signs Of A Battered Woman
Battering is a term for abuse. To be frank there has been an increase in the number of cases if domestic violence. Every day you can see new cases in the newspaper. These cases of battering or physical and mental abuse are mostly between a wife and her husband, with the latter abusing the former either physically or verbally. This is a crime that needs to be stopped.
One needs to know the signs of a battered woman because one needs to help such people if they ever can do so. These women need care and proper mental strength. They get abused mostly for no mistake of theirs. A battered woman also will lack courage to express her displeasure and pain to her near and dear ones. But with some help, she can be pulled out from that condition and she can live a better life.
There are basically two kinds of abuse. One is the physical abuse and one is the mental abuse. The latter is as serious as the former if not more. The signs of a battered woman can be recognized if they are caused by physical abuse. The signs of mental abuse can be difficult to find out. This often leads to the decrease of proper mental strength of the victim and slowly the victim slips into depression and will develop an inferiority complex, which is really bad.
The signs of physical abuse or battering are scars, bruises, sprains, etc. these injuries are mostly seen on the hands, torso and on the neck. One may also find signs of strangulation and slapping marks on the cheeks and on the back. One may also find similar injuries on other parts and there may be some evidence of prior abuse.
Coming to the signs of mental abuse, it is very difficult to single out a particular sign or symptom. A battered woman may show many kinds of symptoms but some of them may be due to other causes. The signs of mental abuse or battering are sudden self-isolation, unwillingness of the victim to socialize with people, excessive feeling of fear, and many other such signs which show that the victim has been tortured mentally.
These signs are not only difficult to notice but are also inconclusive as to how the victims express their feelings and pain. There may be women who are mentally strong than others and they can handle pain without expressing. But this should not become a means through which some one can abuse her and make ill use of her mental strength.
A battered woman needs immediate assistance and also proper counselling and treatment. The Battered woman also needs to gain courage to protest against the violence and lodge a complaint. If there is something that can be solved by talks or proper mediation it must be attempted to bring peace to both the parties. A Battered woman also must understand that if there is no mistake on her side then she must exercise her rights and protest. If she takes the first initiative it will be highly beneficial for her.
