Nowadays every teenager knows what skateboard and skateboarding is. And most of them love it. It is a very good way to hang out with friends, do some sport, learn new tricks about your passion. It is also a very good way to move from one place to another, a relatively fast way and definitely a fun one.

The actual origin or inventor of the skateboard isn’t known. Some say that the skateboard appear in 1930s or 1940s, when there were made by children soap-boxes attached to wooden planks on roller-skate wheels and they participated in soapbox races. Then the soapbox became detached from the plank and the children rode those “skateboards”. Others say that surfers invented skateboards, trying to recreate surfing on the land, when there were no good waves. Nobody really knows, but everybody sure knows that skateboarding is becoming more and more popular.

Now there is a better thing than the skateboard: the radio controlled skateboard. It is faster, funnier, easier to use and you can avoid the crowd very easily. More and more adults are using it every day as a means of transport.

A radio controlled skateboard or electric skateboard is a large skateboard with a hand-held controller and a motor attached.

The motor power of a radio controlled skateboard is between 150 and 800 watts and the board size varies from 34″ to 46″. The weight of a radio controlled skateboard varies from 15,4 lbs to 66,1 lbs. It can accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in 4 seconds and has a velocity between 11 km/h and 48 km/h.

Louis Finkle was the inventor of the radio controlled skateboard. He, using his own money, perfected the skateboard in a period of five years. His design included a wireless hand remote. The rider would use his own body as an antenna on a very low frequency to operate the remote. This kind of design was supposed to decrease the radio frequency interference.

Now there are RCSK8 Boards wired or wireless. Both are advantageous. The wired ones provide no interference and increased reliability, while the wireless ones provides more freedom in moving your hand, but they can be influenced by other radio frequencies from electric doors, phone poles, power-lines or any other RF transmissions.

Most of the RCSK8 Boards have a lead acid battery, but there are some models that use more modern batteries, like nickel-metal hydrides and lithium-polymers. The range of a battery charge is about 12-15 miles.

The radio controlled skateboard is very silent, although it is quite powerful, there is no humming noise, only the silent purr of the motor.

There are RCSK8 Boards for rougher terrain or for streets, also known as off-road or on-road RCSK8 Boards. The first ones look kind of like mountain boards, and have large knobby tires for traction.

Already skateboarding was attractive for many who enjoy sport, speed, who like to feel a rush of adrenaline, but this new way of skateboarding has captured more and more people, and even adults who enjoy it now because of everything radio controlled skateboarding has to offer.
