Having Fun With Exercise

Many of us dread physical activity. We either don’t enjoy the strenuous activity or we don’t enjoy working out in public. That is why a quarter of adults get absolutely no physical activity. And those that do exercise complete only the bare minimum to get by. The key to effective exercise is happiness. And how can we achieve happiness? That’s easy, by doing something that we enjoy. Just because you need to lose weight it does not mean that you can’t have any fun in the process. It is important to keep the body active as we get older so we can keep our metabolisms going at strong levels so we can get the most our of life and weight loss.

Everyone knows that physical activity can reduce our risk of developing certain chronic diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. The guidelines recommend that the average healthy adult gets 2.5 hours of moderate intensity exercise or 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous exercise each week. How many of us actually achieve this goal on a weekly basis? A very small number! So what are some of these physically challenging activities which we can embark upon aside from sweating at the local gym? Well, as far as moderate intensity activity is concerned there is ballroom dancing, brisk walking, bicycling less than 10 miles per hour, water aerobics, and gardening. Yes some of these may seem untraditional but they can surely help you achieve quick weight loss. Exercise doesn’t have to be hard or even time consuming it can be as little as 30 minutes three times a week in order to maintain weight loss, or 30 minutes every other day to promote weight loss.

As for vigorous physical activity, you have the option of jogging, running, jumping rope, and bicycling 10 miles per hour or faster (to name a few). Exercise can be anything that gets your body moving and your heart pumping, as Nike says, “Just do it” and your body will be happier. Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous for those that do not need to lose weight, you can take a stroll or even walk the dog, they both count towards physical activity. So as you can see, exercise does not have to entail a sweaty gym routine. It can be comprised of almost any physically challenging sport or activity you enjoy. Simply chose your all time favorite outdoor activity and turn it into a daily exercise. And if you don’t have a particular activity in mind, see what your friends are doing and try a few different things. Enjoying what you do will help you lose weight more effectively. Some people have taken up playing the new game console called the Wii, this unit provides many hours of not only fun and family enjoyment but also much needed exercise to those who don’t want to go outside of set up an aerobics DVD. So no matter if you go to the gym, take a stroll, or play a game, it is a good idea to get your body moving.
