Cabinet Hardware to Make a Nice Display in the Kitchen
Are you one of those people that are always adding to your kitchen? If this is the room you use most in the house, you, and everyone you know, may always be buying things for this space. From the latest gadget to use while cooking to cute decorations to help spice up this room, it’s very likely you have a lot of kitchen things that you’re running out of space for. In this article we’re going to take a look at how to take some of that open wall space you have in the kitchen and turn it into something a little more decorative.
All kitchens have a little bit of open wall space. Well this space can not only be used for putting up things like pictures and trinkets, but it can also be used as a space to display other kitchen items you have. For example, you may want to show off a neat piece of Chinese picked up somewhere along the way. Or, perhaps you have old family heirloom kitchen utensils that would make a nice display on the wall, but you also want to have accessible when you’re ready to use them. These are all things that you can put up on display in some of that opened wall space.
So the question becomes, what’s the best way to hang them? Sure there are plenty of racks and shelves on the market that you can purchase, pop up and put these items on, but there’s also a very affordable and unique way to do this. Take a look around at all the cabinet hardware you have in your kitchen. Do you have any extra pieces? Or do you know where you got them? If the answer is yes to either of these questions you’re in luck.
Cabinet hardware doesn’t just have to be on a drawer or cabinet. In this case, you can screw those pieces of cabinet hardware directly into your wall and use them as a hook for a hanging piece to put the items on that you want to display. This is not only a great way to use up some of those extra cabinet hardware pieces you have, but it’s also a nice way to make all of these spaces in your kitchen match. Using this open piece of wall and accenting it with the cabinet hardware continue to make one constant look and theme prevalent in your kitchen.
One important thing to keep in mind when going this route is to make sure that the cabinet hardware can handle the stress you’re going to put it under. Not all cabinet hardware is created equal. That means not all hardware can handle the same amount of weight. So, take a good look at the cabinet hardware piece you have before you use it. Is the screw long enough that it’s going to give you adequate support once you put it in the wall? Is the material the knob is made out of strong enough to handle the pressure it’s going to be under? Make sure the answer is yes to both of these questions before using it.
Additionally, if you can, and especially if you’re going to be hanging items with any substantial weight, try to find a stud in the wall to screw the piece of hardware into. This way, you know it has a strong support structure from the backside that should hold it in place for years to come.
