The pressure and agony of being a single mother is not easy to endure and the burden of looking after your kids all by yourself is one of the worst traumas of life. Single mothers are under constant pressure and strain because they are the only care-takers of their kids and do not receive any support to take care of them. For supporting their families and providing proper education to their kids, single mothers end up working at various odd jobs wherein they think only about the remuneration. Most of the single mothers lead a very tough life wherein they have to even work at 2-3 jobs so as to support their family. Most of these mothers without any adequate education cannot work at the high-paying jobs and thus are thrown into a life of struggle and suffering. Every section of the society needs to be educated adequately so as to help in the overall development of the country as a whole. Thus the government as well as private bodies have initiated scholarships to the needy mothers which is a great step towards the progress and development of the nation.

The government realizes the misery of single mothers and has in turn started several federal grants wherein scholarships are provided to them so that they can re-start their education. Federal grants can be freely applied by everyone on the website FAFSA wherein the tax records of the previous year also needs to be submitted along with the form. Various federal grants have been started for the welfare of the people, the major ones amongst them are the Pell Grants, National SMART Grant, TEACH Grant, etc. The government has announced that for the year 2010, around $40 billion has been allotted for federal grants. President Obama is also working earnestly towards the growth of the nation through education and has in turn started the Mom’s Return to School Program which is an earnest beginning towards educating the mothers.

Benevolent organizations are also working towards women’s education and there are a number of organizations who feel that sponsoring education for the mothers is a great step. The Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Program exclusively provides educational opportunities for women who are above 35 years of age. The main idea behind providing scholarships to mothers is that an educated mother will definitely instigate her children to study and move further in life and education is one of the basic necessities of each one of us wherein we get the motivation to be on the right path and lead successful careers.
