Street Skating and Street Skateboards

Dreaming about cruising the streets on a skateboard? Well, you could do just that if you tried looking through some street skateboards at a skating shop or on the Internet and choosing one for yourself.

Street skateboards are the boards you ride on a paved surface. Basically, the main difference between street skating and ramp (vert) skating is that, while the latter happens on vert ramps or halfpipes, the former happens on the pavement (although, most often, not on the actual streets, but in parks and other special areas – or anywhere except a ramp). In street skateboarding (or street skating as it is more commonly known), you have to make use of objects and avoid obstacles specific to urban areas, such as stairs, ledges, curbs, handrails etc. There isn’t any particularly significant difference between vert skateboards and street skateboards, just that the latter are usually narrower, in order to make tricks easier to do.

Street skateboards started becoming very popular in the 80’s and their popularity is still growing today. Although some people would disagree, street skating isn’t, or at least it shouldn’t be, only for kids and young people. Adults could also derive a lot of enjoyment from this fun and interesting activity, which could also be perceived as a good workout and a great way to keep in good shape, while relaxing and having a great time.

There are many tricks you can do on street skateboards and they require variable levels of skill. Ollies, flips and other difficult moves and maneuvers are one of the main reasons why street skating is such a thrilling and popular activity. These tricks are one of the most exciting things about skateboarding, but they’re also pretty difficult and you shouldn’t try them if you don’t have the necessary experience and practice. While big tricks are obviously great, not being able to do them doesn’t mean you can’t have a fulfilling skateboarding experience.

We’ve seen that street skateboards are wonderful for cruising around on the streets and in skate parks, but street skateboards can even, in some cases, serve as a means of transportation, and an effective one for that matter – that is, if you’re reasonably good on a skateboard.

If you’ve decided that street skating is something that you’d like to try, then it’s time to go shopping for street skateboards. You can find many different designs, so, however hard to please you might be, it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to find street skateboards that you like and that you would proudly ride amongst your friends and other skateboarders. But be careful to pick out the right board, as your whole experience will have to suffer if your board is too big or too small for you’re size. Skateboarding is one of the most enjoyable activities you’ll ever get the chance to do, so you shouldn’t miss out on it.
