Easy Style For Moms

Dressing well can be the farthest thing from your mind when you’re rushing to get your kids out the door on time. But you’ll look better and feel better if you take just a few minutes to pull your daily outfit together. Even the busiest mom can follow these five easy tips for dressing better daily:

1. Clean out your closet! It’s impossible to feel good if you have a big coffee stain on your shoulder, or if you’re trying to hide the ripped hem in your skirt. Do a five-minute pass through your closet and drawers and toss everything that is stained or torn. If you think you want to get an item repaired, put it in a bag in the trunk of your car. If you don’t drop it off at the tailor within a week, drop it off at the Goodwill donation station instead.

2. Have a “uniform.” I know you’re saying you don’t have time to get all dressed up, but that’s not an excuse. You know why firefighters can get dressed so fast? Because they have a uniform! Adopt a uniform of your own, even if it’s just a pair of flattering jeans, a fitted t-shirt, and a cute pair of flats. Rotate the color of your t-shirt, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect mom uniform. Think of it as a style, and you’re set.

3. Take it up a notch. Start with what you normally wear and step it up. If you like the comfort of sweats, invest in a matching hoody and yoga pants set. If jeans are your thing, get a well-fitting pair that doesn’t leave you as a condidate for Saturday Night Live’s “Mom Jeans” skit. If you like to wear sneakers, get a snazzy pair of Converse low-tops, or some colorful Keds. You don’t have to totally revamp your wardrobe, just think of how you can move one step up the style ladder.

4. Accessorize! Once you’re used to your new “uniform,” add a few inexpensive chunky bracelets, a “statement” necklace, or a stylish hat. You don’t have to buy out the whole accessories section of Target, but you can add some visual interest to your look with an unusual necklace, ring, or watch.

5. Be a copy cat. If you think you don’t know the first thing about style, “buy” your own stylist. Go to the bookstore, flip through a few magazines, and find one with some looks you like. Buy it, bring it home, and copy the outfits you like. Hint: Forget the runway looks, and pick outfits the stars are wearing on their days off, just kicking around town. A lot of discount retailers (Kohls, Target, etc.) have these same trends reinterpreted for real women’s bodies and lifestyles.

Looking good is mostly a matter of attitude, Decide you’re going to spend a little bit of time and money on yourself, and you’ll soon be admiring the new “you!”
