In the Movie “A Few Good Men” with Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore, wow I didn’t realize the movie was that old, makes me kinda old, it was released in 1992. Some of you were probably born around 1992. Anyway, one of the most famous lines in that movie was where Colonel Nathan Jessep, Jack Nicholson, says to Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, “you can’t handle the truth”. But the truth is that you can handle the truth. And the truth is that if you want to be really good at paintball you might want to get in shape.

There I said it, and it might be true. If you get winded while playing a game of paintball then you may consider getting into better shape. You will never be a winner if you can’t keep the pressure on with the enemy. If they turn it on and you find your self in a defensive position, well, I guess you can sit on your laurels and wait till you can see the whites of their eyes before you shoot. Or you could become more aggressive and meet them half way down the field and show them what you’re made of.

During World War I at the battle of Belleau Wood in 1918 the German soldiers gave the name of “Teufel Hunden” to the Marines who fought in that arena. The Marines fought with such ferocity that they were given that title which is translated to “Devil Dogs”. That’s because Marines don’t dig in and make fox holes, if they have to dig in they make a fighting hole. And they don’t live there for very long. Marines are trained to be on the offensive and that’s why the Germans at Belleau Wood called them Dogs From Hell. Because those Marines got up out of their holes and started yelling and terrorizing and ruining some health records and driving those Germans back home. That is what you have to do be an offensive player. If you want to win you must be an offensive player.

Part of being an offensive player is being in shape. Get moving down field towards the enemy and with your bayonet attached making one hole going in and another coming out. Wow, sorry I got carried away there for a minute. You’re not Marine Recruits are you? Uhhh, where was I, oh ya getting in shape. You know there are lots of reasons for getting in shape. I’ve been playing guitar and singing since I was about 8 years old and I’m a lot older than that now but even singing takes being in shape. If you just want to take your dog for a walk, not your Devil dog, if you are going any distance at all you should be in shape. Well, were not talking about all of the many things that you can do because you are in shape but to be the best paintball player you can be you need to be in shape. As always, be safe keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction and get some paint on someone today.
