The Strong, Silent Type – Men’s Issues That Are Quiet Killers

Many people have a tendency to think that men do not have any “issues”. They tend to think that men are basically just machines that run on auto pilot all the time and live out their lives with contentment and solace. The truth is that men do have many issues that affect the quality of their lives, but unlike women, their issues are usually quiet ones. This may be in part, due to the fact that men do not like to talk about the things that display their potential weaknesses. Anything that could potentially be looked at as an inhibitor to a man’s ability to work, provide, and protect is kept under the rug, no matter how serious it is. The truth of the matter is that, just as women’s issues range in severity from a nuisance to a life threatening condition, so do men’s issues. Let’s look at a few of the major issues that men face.

Addiction: Men have a tendency to become more easily addicted and attached to all kinds of things than women. The most common types of addictions for men are, sex, sports, tobacco, and alcohol. Violence is another major addiction that a great many men deal with along side adrenaline. These addictions when left unchecked have a great potential to lead the man to a dangerous way of life. While the first may interfere with his life, and the second two can end his life over time, the last two can potentially bring him to his demise very early and without warning.

Depression: It has been shown that a man is 6 times more likely to suffer from moderate depression for an extended period of time ranging from a couple of years to as long as a decade or more. It is believed that this type of depression is the most severe as it seems to be the kind that leads more often to suicidal tendencies and issues with other problems such as anger management and bi-polar disorder.

Prostate Disease: This is a problem that has seen a significant rise in recent years. The number of men who are suffering from prostate related illness has grown exponentially over the last decade. This is a problem that not only can affect a man’s sex life, but if not handled correctly, can also be fatal. At its least significant side, prostate problems can make a man miserable. Conditions on the milder side can range from severe urinary conditions and excessive pain, to problems in being able to perform sexually or even being able to walk or stand.

As you can see men’s issues cover a wide range of areas and are simply addressed with simple solutions. These issues are affecting the lives of our fathers, brothers, husbands, lovers, sons and friends. The only way to make a difference is to talk to the men you care about in your life and let them know what it is they are dealing with, that you are there for them, and that help exists.
