Knowing What is Involved During a C-Section
Learn Facts Before Deciding
C-sections are performed by doctors or other physicians. This procedure is done when vaginal births either pose complications or when it is not possible at all. Decisions to have a C-section are based on your doctor and what they feel would be best for you.
As with any surgery, there are risks involved with C-sections. Doctors take necessary precautions with C-sections to ensure they are performed safely and that no harm to mother or baby is caused. Patients who have C-sections performed are awake during the procedure and are given an anesthetic to help numb the area.
Receiving an anesthetic is a mandatory part of the procedure and ensures a successful surgery. A cut is made by the surgeon across the abdominal area and extends to the vaginal area. After the incision is made, the baby will be removed through the uterus and out of the amniotic sac.
The mid-wife will remove any fluids from the baby by sucking out their nose and mouth. Baby is wiped clean, vitals are checked, and then presented to parents. Assessments of the baby are taken to ensure proper health of the baby and to be sure delivery went safe.
Doctors are the only ones who can decide if a C-section can be done or not. There are many factors that affect this decision. The mother’s family history is documented as well as any incidents that may have happened. There may be illnesses that can occur during a C-section and the baby’s head may even become enlarged.
C-sections are an overall safe procedure. Doctors take many precautions to ensure safe delivery of baby. Mother’s who undergo this procedure are not at risk for anything. With each pregnancy that ends with a C-section, risks are increased and may be possible. If you have any problems with your C-section, seek attention from your physician immediately.
Every woman is different so it is best to follow the instructions given to you by your doctor regarding healing from a C-section. It is important to remain under the supervision of a doctor with each pregnancy to help eliminate the chance of complications and risks. Before you get a C-section, there are exams that need to be performed to determine any health risks.
Recovery from a C-section is about 2-4 days, depending on if there are complications or not. Depending on the type of C-section, some recovery periods may vary. When you are discharged from the hospital, your doctor may or may not prescribe you pain medication depending on your discomfort, if you have any. Doctors recommend walking around to help aid in a faster healing from your C-section.
Before having a C-Section, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor. You should always know what can and will be done during your pregnancy. Staying safe and healthy is main thing to remember. Your doctor will always know whats best for you to do. Having family support is always a big factor as well.
