Many people, even those who are adept in using metal detectors, do not know what “coin shooting” means. Coin shooting is a term that refers to a kind of metal detecting, searching for lost or dropped coins with the use of a metal detector. This is an exciting hobby because some people even find very old coins that turn out to be very valuable pieces and worth a treasure. So if you are always enthusiastic in finding old coins and metal detecting is your hobby, these are the three unusual places you could take your search to.

1.Outhouses. These are houses that that are very old probably even more than centuries old and are usually abandoned. Some people are afraid to go inside outhouses because they are afraid of ghosts but this should never deter you in finding very old coins or valuables that are made of metal. Ghosts are only figments of our imagination while coins and valuables hidden there are for real.

So why are outhouses good prospects for old coins? That is already an understandable question. People lived there for many generations. They used money too you know so it is almost sure that they lost coins or anything valuables on crevices, under the blocks, in between slats of woods and so on and only the metal detector has the ability to track them down.

2.Waterfalls. If you think waterfalls cannot have coins, well, you are very wrong. So many people have found old coins, gold and silver bracelets and necklaces, silver wares and other precious metals in waterfalls by using their metal detectors. This makes metal detecting more exciting because waterfalls are exciting places to visit and now more alluring for treasure enthusiast to venture. Again, why are waterfalls ideal places to search for old coins? Because these are usually located in or near picnic grove or at the tail end of a large river where people love to go canoeing or boating so strong current bring about any metal that falls into the river and end up in the waterfalls. Most waterfalls are very old and it is usual that people who visit them dropped coins at the bottom or into the pool below. You probably have seen people intentionally dropping or throwing coins from the tops of waterfalls into the pool below making the pool some sort of a wishing well.

3.Hiking Trails. Our ancestors today have made many of the oldest hiking trails. These trails have been tracked by thousands of people as different generations pass by. So if you can imagine the number of people who have tracked these paths, it is understood that in some ways while they are reaching for their pockets they may have dropped coins on the ground and remained buried there for ages. Metal detecting on hiking trails are almost unknown to many so it is time for you to try it.

So now that you know which unusual but best places for your search for old coins are, there is no reason why you should not take up your metal detector and go there. Who knows you could even find bigger treasures and your hobby can turn into a serious treasure hunting business.
