Sightseeing New York Sex and the City Style

Nobody knows more about sightseeing New York, than the archetypal, Big Apple inhabiting, single and not so single gals of the TV series Sex and the City. Having trawled every corner of the city looking for love and eligible bachelors, there is no part of New York that they cannot tell you about. But what sightseeing have they done themselves within the episodes of the hit sitcom?

Trawling the Art Galleries

Any avid Sex and the City fan will immediately associate the sitcom with the wealth of art galleries that you will see whilst sightseeing New York. One of the characters, Charlotte York, even worked in several galleries during the course of her career. However, that did not stop her visiting other art spots with the girls in her spare time; one gallery that will stick out in the memory of both Charlotte and Carrie’s minds, is the exhibition at which they crossed paths with the infamous Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky who soon whisked Carrie away to a new life in Paris. As Charlotte would tell you, there are many galleries that are simply not to be missed when it comes to sightseeing. New York’s finest include the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Staten Island

No doubt all viewers remember the episode of Sex and the City, in which the girls take a ferry over to Staten Island in order to support Carrie whilst she judges on the panel of New York City Fire Department’s annual calendar contest. As the four friends travelled away from New York on the ferry, Miranda looked over her shoulder and said, “Who would have thought an island that tiny would be big enough to hold all our old boyfriends?” However, if she had been looking in the other direction, she would have been able to see some of the finest sights New York Harbour has to offer. The ferry to Staten Island travels right past Ellis Island, home to the nation’s most prized monument the Statue of Liberty. The best way of seeing this world-famous monument without even realising that you’re sightseeing, New York’s ferries can take you on fabulous tours of the harbour, showing you the city from a completely different vantage point.

Central Park by Carriage

Carrie and Big’s relationship is arguably one of the easiest ways to measure the various milestones and markers of Sex and the City, but it can also give you some great ideas for sightseeing. New York’s most-loved but also most-troublesome bachelor, Mr Big decides to leave the city behind him in season four, giving Carrie an excuse not only to glam up in a fabulous dress for his last night in town, but also to splash out on a new pair of shoes. The pair undertake the ultimate in sightseeing New York, travelling around Central Park in a romantic horse drawn carriage. This is undoubtedly the best way to see New York’s most famous park, however it might just be too much to hope that you will be able to persuade your driver to take you through the rest of the city as Big does when Carrie needs to get to the hospital as Miranda goes into labour.

So, if the image of the Big Apple portrayed by television’s most cherished group of females has always appealed to you, why not head over there and try sightseeing New York Sex and the City style.
