The members of the Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family were lead characters from the Blondie comic strips. These characters were created by Murat Chic Young and were first published in the newspapers on the 8th of September in 1930 as an original all American comic strip made for newspapers.

Looking at the tremendous success of the Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family, this particular comic strip was made into a long-run series that was successfully screened from 1938 through 1950. The ever growing success of this particular series made an easy transition into a daily radio show that was broadcasted from 1939 till 1950.

Chic Young, the original creator of the Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family, kept making the series till his death in 1979. After that, his son Dean Young took control over the Blondie and Dagwood series and is still involved in the creation of these amazing characters. Dean is still producing the comic strips with the help of other prominent cartoonists like Dennis Lebrun, Stan Drake, Mike Gersher and Jim Raymond. Currently John Marshall has also been collaborated in the list of contributing artists, among others.

As of 2010, Blondie has been so successful that the comic strips are being focused in more than 50 countries over almost 2000 newspapers around the world. This particular series is now being translated in almost 37 different languages and the 80th successful year of this particular series is to be celebrated in 2010. Looking at the ever growing demand and the rate of success, the series is now being made available through emails.

Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family are characters that are originally based on Blondie Boopadoop’s adventures. It centered on Blondie, a very carefree girl who loved spending her days in a dance hall! The last name of Blondie was taken from the song “I Wanna Be Loved By You” that was released in 1928 and widely popularized by Helen Kane.

The rest of the Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family finally came into existence in 1933 when Blondie had grown tired of the fun that every young lady requires and then fell for a very wealthy man named Dogwood Bumstead. On the 17th of February in 1933, Ms. Boopadoop walked down the aisle with Mr. Bumstead in holy matrimony. Sadly for this newly married couple, Mr. Bumstead was estranged from any benefits that he could have enjoyed being a part of a wealthy family for the simple fact that he married a woman who was not in the same social class as that of his family but Dagwood loved Blondie and romantically chose her over riches.

The actual comic strip revolved around the Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead Family and their neighbors, the Woodley’s who had a daughter, a son and Daisy, the family dog. The comic strip looked at all the facets of an all-American family life and their struggle during tough but loving times.

While the comics began with Blondie and still predominately carries her name, Dagwood can probably be considered to have evolved into the main character. He was a goof up of sorts despite his loveable nature. He made these huge sandwiches that were a dozen or more layers of food thick. When you enjoy a big sub sandwich today, the creator of the business where you bought it may well have gotten the idea from Dagwood. In fact, huge sandwiches were commonly referred to as Dagwood sandwiches!
