Pomeranian Pup Hand Rearing Guide

First thing’s first. As soon as your new Pomeranian puppy gets home from the Pom breeder, it is extremely important that you immediately begin with the cleaning and grooming of your pup. This is done not only to maintain their overall appearance but also to ensure that your pup remains healthy and relaxed. You have to remember that your failure to perform these maintenance activities will not only produce this distinct odor, which is not so pleasant, but tangled and matted fur as well. This condition also makes your Pomeranian pup predisposed to skin allergies, and this is the last thing that you would to happen to them.

Important Pup Care Tips to Remember

1. Fur Coat

Your primary aim in proper grooming is to make you and your pup happy. The fur can be the source of joy or consternation, depending on how you perform the grooming on your Pomeranian pup. Proper pup grooming will require regular combing, brushing and trimming of the coat. When dealing with long-haired puppies, you will surely need to comb through daily. You will also have to regularly check for tangles of mats, which you have to trim.

If you are dealing with curly or wooly dogs, then brushing will be a daily routine to avoid those knots and tangles which tend to develop more frequently. On the other hand, having a short-haired dog may not require you to adopt a high-maintenance grooming routine for your dog, but it is important that you comb or brush them every 2 or 3 weeks. While proper grooming is generally on the discretion of the owner, it is still best that you follow the recommended grooming guide for specific dog breeds.

2. Paw Care

Aside from the fur coat, you will also have to regularly check the paws of your Pomeranian puppy. The job will also include periodic nail trimming. You have to carefully check the condition of your pup’s paws to ensure that no debris or dirt is wedged in between the toes. This caring procedure is a must if your pup loves to stay outdoors.

The nails of your Pomeranian pup will have to be trimmed after a few weeks. This will help them to move around and prevent nails from growing inward and affect the paw pads. Having ingrown nails can be a very painful experience for your pup, and you may have to spend quite a bit to have them removed and closed up. In order to prevent this condition from happening, you must carefully check the nails every two weeks. Trimming of the nails will also be good for you, and this can save your furniture and hard floors from scratches that may be caused by the untrimmed nails of your pup. Of course, if your pup starts making those familiar clicking sounds, then it is time for you to do some trimming of your pup’s nails.

3. Ear Care

Ear care is an important part of your pup’s rearing regimen. As a general rule, your pup’s ear must always have a pale pink color and should not emit any foul odor. If you observe something that is odd, then it is a must that you take your pup over to the vet clinic for immediate check up. Ear cleaning is a fairly simple task. You can clean the inner portions of the ear using a wet pad or cotton swab with warm water. Make sure that you clean only as far as your eyes can see and never attempt to go deep into the inner canal. Perform this task every time you groom the outside of your Pomeranian pup.
