Find the Perfect Vehicle For Your Needs

When it comes time to shop for a new car, many people don’t know how to go about getting the right car. Choosing a car requires you to perform a delicate balancing act. You weigh the combination of needs, desires and wants that exist in your life. Figuring out what each of these brings to the table, adding factors such as price and practically, and formulating a plan that meets each of them is the best way to come up with the perfect car for you.

Your old car has come to the end of the road. It’s lost its shine and it’s costing too much money for frequent minor repairs, not to mention those big-ticket items like transmission repair. You want, even need, a new vehicle, but there are so many out there to choose from. Buying a car is a big decision. How do you make the right choice?

First, think about the features you want in a car. There are actually three types of ‘want’ to be considered. The first one is qualities that we actually need. If you’re buying a car for family use, and you have three children, you can’t buy a two-seater MG; you need a car with more seats. Children not only need a seat apiece, but hauling children and babies around often means lugging toys, portable cots, and cases of disposable nappies. If you have a dog, a hatchback or estate wagon is handy for canine members of the family.

Another feature to consider is automatic shift versus manual. If you do a lot of city driving, the clutch on a manual transmission will wear faster from the constant shifting, plus it’s just more of a nuisance. On the other hand, if you live in a rural or hilly area, you might prefer a manual shift, or even a four-wheel drive vehicle.

If you’re buying a car for business purposes, you may need to drive a car that has a certain style or class that suits your profession. If you do a lot of long-distance driving in your profession, you need a car that gets good mileage. London to Edinburgh twice a week, with side trips to Glasgow or Manchester, really eats up the petrol.

Secondly, there are the wants that aren’t really ‘needs’, but you have a good reason for including them in your list of needed features. This may include items like a decent stereo system, or satellite radio. Leather seats can be justified by the fact that they last better than cloth, and don’t get as easily stained by spilled coffee and squashed chips.

Then of course, there are the heart’s desires. Things we don’t need, but we really, really want. Fancy rims, sunroofs, a really fine stereo, a leather dash and steering wheel-the list goes on. Sit down-with your mate if you have one-and make your list. Prioritize your needs, wants and desires, and then look at cars with those features in your price range.
