Minutiae of the Pomeranian Dog
The Pomeranian dog is a small, long-haired, easy-to-carry dog breed of the Spitz type. Owing to its miniature size, dog breeders regard it as one toy dog. They originally bred it for becoming companion dogs, specifically for upper-class people. The dog has been in the company of nobility people and many important rulers in the past. In the earlier days, this dog was much larger. It weighed up to thirty pounds, working as a sheepherder.
Pomeranian is a cutest dog having an innocent look. It appears active, lively and happy in the company of human beings. The dog is loyal, displaying deep liking and docile behavior toward children. It needs a firm leadership and training. Due to its short size, this dog is good to have in apartments. It adapts itself easily to small spaces. Owners need to train it a lot for obedience and for getting familiar with people around.
Pomeranian ensures its owner’s safety and is always on the alert. It may turn aggressive on spotting any stranger doing suspicious activities around it. Usually, it is a housebroken and an intelligent pet animal willing to socialize with people and other dogs and animals. Many people consider it a lapdog mainly because of its size. However, it does not stay in your lap for much time. Rather, you may see it lying at your feet comfortably.
Owners need to stay cautious they do not allow this dog to move freely in the open. An enclosed garden is indeed the best place to keep this dog in surveillance. This dog features a unique coat of soft and abundant hair, which lends it a gorgeous look. As for the colors, Pomeranian dog comes in diverse colors, which is not so with other tiny dog breeds. The common and popular colors are sable, red, white, cream, orange and black.
Any standard Pomeranian appears tall by about eight to eleven inches at the shoulder. It weighs nearly between three and seven pounds. No matter how small this dog is, it requires daily exercise. Due to regular workout, it is able to reach the maximum height and stays in shape. In addition, its bones and muscles develop greatly in a natural and healthy manner only due to proper exercise and training.
Pomeranian grows well naturally because of its healthy appetite. Many dog owners hardly realize how athletic and powerful this dog may be, since it is born energetic. The dog bears some negative characteristics in it. One thing worth to be noted is its inability to stay at ease in a family environment. The moment it witnesses another pet animal receiving more attention in its presence, it will try to launch an attack on that animal.
Moreover, the Pomeranian, as one independent dog, may act disobedient if it does not receive proper training. It requires confident and courageous people to train this dog to obey commands. This dog displays a thick silky coat with hair grown all over the body. Its coat needs enough care and grooming just like that of a Pekingese. A regular or twice a week brushing is necessary for maintaining its plush, thick coat.
The Pomeranian dog also requires daily nail and ear care other than seasonal bathing. Teeth problems are common in this dog and hence they require brushing once in a week. Daily brushing is the best for this dog to stay safe from dental disorders. Besides, infections of the skin and eye are also common with this dog. It is likely to survive for 15 years. Daily veterinary care is recommended for this dog, as it is fragile.
Overall, the Pomeranian dog is a small, cute, portable, friendly, aggressive, attention-demanding and adaptable pet animal.
