The most popular of all of the flash cards for the Nintendo DS and DSi is still the R4 DS line of flash cards. The R4 DS card was one of the very first slot 1 flash cards on the market that looked and behaved just like a regular Nintendo DS Card. While many companies were making little add on Passkeys or passme’s for their slot 2 cards, the R4 Team worked hard at developing a solution that did away with the old GBA Card slot flash cards and focused on making something that was just for the new DS and DS lite systems.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of programmers and developers that consider the R4 DS the best card on the market, they have worked together to create a brand new third party firmware called the Wood R4, currently in it’s version 1.04 release.

The Wood R4 firmware picks up the slack where the original R4 firmware left off. Offering absolutely amazing support for the newest game files and newest homebrew applications right out of the proverbial box. WIth the Wood R4 DS firmware, users can confidently purchase the R4 DS and have it with all of the same features, functions, and most importantly, compatibility, that comes with newer cards like the AceKard 2i and others. The Wood R4 firmware fixes many of the bugs that were there in the initial R4 firmware that stopped it from being able to play some of the newer files.

This firmware is a replacement for the R4 1.18 firmware and only supports the Original R4 Flash Linkers. I say this because you’ll want to make sure you are in fact buying an original R4 DS card and not a clone or cheap knock off. The old saying runs true here – you get what you pay for. Clones and cheap knock offs simply will not work with this firmware at all, and it’s no surprise.
