Christian Books at the Mall
I went to the mall yesterday because there was a power interruption in our house. I decided to go to the mall after going to church to purchase something, while I am waiting for the electrical posts to be fixed by the electric personnel. When I was at the mall, I saw 6 teenagers hanging out at the mall. I wondered did these teenagers even care to visit the church since it was a Sunday afternoon. During my younger age, young ones are really required to go to church every Sunday. Attend to the mass and listen to the priest’s homily. I am very disappointed because as our generation advances, the young one’s mind also advances and they tend to forget going to church.
I remember the days when I was in my secondary level. We have a Christian class that allows us to do Christian activities. We read Christian books, share what we’ve learned. We sing Christian songs and play games. We also have outdoor activities like, feeding those who are hungry, reading Christian books to their children. We help them out in their daily chores and do a lot more Christian activities. That was a very fulfilling moment for me. Sharing the blessings that I have with those who are really In need.
Today, I ever wonder if they still have Christian classes. What I do know is they have computer class, science class, English class and all other academic subjects that they can offer. How about the values that the children needs to learn? Are we forgetting those values already because of the technologies that we are enjoying right now? Like for the group of the teenagers I saw at the mall. Instead of going to church and spending time with their family, they are at the mall with friends. Along with them are the most advanced gadgets technology can offer. Are they still aware of the values Jesus wants us to follow? Values are instilled in a person’s character and what Jesus wants us to have is to have good values. It is not too much to ask. As a parent, make sure that at a very young age the children are already exposed to a Christian family. Going to church together as family every Sunday is a good start. You can ask your kids or even parents to read Christian books with each other. Asked your kids what values they learned upon reading the Christian books. Teach your kids to respectful to elders because in that way they are already respecting Jesus.
Character of a person starts at home, so as early now teach your children to have good values and teach them to be god fearing. Children are very easy to influence. This is the stage wherein we can mold them into a good person so that they can bring it until they grow up. Since these children are easily influenced you need to make that your child’s environment will be good for them. For example in school, teachers also have a responsibility of developing the child’s value and character. As a teacher, you should be a good example to the children. You must show them that you are leaving a Christian life. You can always guide them and influence them to be good Christians. You can have an activity wherein kids can read out loud Christian stories in Christian books. You can even buy coloring Christian books for their activity. In that way, you are already showing the kids to value Christianity and you are already showing them the importance of being a Christian.
Those kids that I saw in the mall had their attention to all the new technologies that we have. The gadgets, the malls, computers and other high end gadgets distracted their attention to become a better Christian. Whose responsibility will it be for them to have the Christian values instilled to their character?
