Keeping Your Rugs Clean

Most of us know how to get a stain out of our clothing. We know that we need to jump on the situation and get the stain taken care of before it sets in, and a great majority of people have a few tricks up their sleeves to help them to get rid of a stubborn, set-in stain. But for some reason, these same people aren’t quite sure how to keep their rugs clean and looking amazing.

Maintenance

Instead of worrying first about cleaning stains and things off of your rugs, you should think about maintenance. Rugs require regular maintenance in order to keep them looking beautiful, and the first step to maintenance is buying the right vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner helps to eliminate the loose dirt and debris on the carpet and keeps the rug looking beautiful on a daily basis. Some people wonder how often they should vacuum their rug. Most experts say that you can vacuum it every few days and the rug should be fine.

Next comes cleaning the rug. Even if you don’t have any stains on your rug, you should make sure that you give it a thorough cleaning on a regular basis. This cleaning can be done by purchasing a rug shampooer. You can find inexpensive shampooers that are gentle and which get the job done for maintenance on rugs at most local department stores. When it comes to cleaning rugs, most experts say that you should clean your rugs at least twice a year. This helps to keep them clean while, at the same time, keeping them looking fresh and not worn down.

Stains

If you keep your rug well maintained, you may not have to deal with problems with stains. But sometimes we all make mistakes and have to deal with trying to figure out how to get rid of a stain on our carpet. If you have a stain on your carpet, the first thing that you should do is to attack it before it gets dry. Place a slightly damp towel on it and draw out any moisture that may be on the stain. Then grab your cleaning liquid for rugs and follow the directions. Most of these products require you to spray down the area that is stained thoroughly and then to let it sit for awhile. This sitting period helps the chemicals in the cleaning fluid to activate, allowing you to get the stain clean.

If you have a stain that has already set, you may need to take some more aggressive measures. Get the area that is stained as clean as you possibly can with the cleaning products for rugs and then hit the area with your rug shampooer. Some people find that renting a heavy-duty cleaner works better than using one of the less powerful ones that you can buy at the store, as these machines are designed to get out tough, set-in stains that you may have on your rugs.
