Mistakes Algonquin Residents Make When Choosing a Personal Trainer

Algonquin has a lot of trainers, however, that does not mean they are all top quality trainers. Residents of Algonquin have been making some major mistakes when choosing personal trainers to help them reach their full fitness potential. There is a lack of knowledge in the area with what determines a trainer to be “good.”

When choosing a personal trainer is a great idea to set up an initial consult, ask as many questions as possible, research ahead and ultimately make sure they have exactly what you are looking for and are willing to cater to your needs.

There are hundreds of trainers in the area so be sure to be cautious and not just go with the first trainer you talk too. Obviously, if you are comfortable with them and they prove to you they are a great value, follow your heart and get onboard with them.

Here are just a few of the bigger mistakes that are made when choosing a personal trainer:

1) Signing Up With a Sales Agent. Often when you enter a health club you are set up with a sales representative for the gym and they try to push you to personal training for the simple fact that they get a commission. The sales agent is more interested in making money than making sure you get the best trainer and that you get the best results from training. It is imperative that you meet directly with a trainer on staff so you can explain what you want to do and get an idea if they are a good fit for you. At the big box gyms you are not always a priority, so think long and hard before you just jump into a program and sign up. I would look at the private studios where the trainers are invested in the gym and take a true investment in you. In smaller settings you are more important to the trainers and your success is directly correlated to their success as a trainer and business owner. It might sound crazy, but in smaller private studio gyms you will get a more private and personal training experience and in most cases your results are guaranteed 100%.

2) Not checking the trainer’s background. This mistake is one that is often over looked. Too often people see that a trainer is working with others and advertising as a personal trainer so they assume they are educated, certified, and qualified to train them. This is a huge mistake that even the smartest people make. It is very important that you check that the trainer is educated in the health and fitness field, certified by a nationally accredited training association, and CPR/First Aid certified.

Algonquin, IL health clubs and private owned studios require all of their trainers to hold a nationally accredited certification. This is a requirement so the clubs are able to carry insurance on the trainer and to protect themselves against law suits. As mentioned before, this does not mean they are a good trainer, just that they have the proper qualifications. I would go as far to check their experience and also check for some social proof that they have had great results as a trainer.

3) Hiring a trainer that is not in tune with your needs. Your initial consultation should be started with you explaining your goals, your worries, your limitations, and then again reiterating your goals. It is a must that you let the trainer know exactly what you want to do and in the time frame you want to start seeing some results. A good trainer will take all this into account, take notes, and ultimately give you his/her suggestion on what type of training program is best for what you want to accomplish. If you ever feel a trainer does not have you in their best interest you need to address it immediately. You are paying them to deliver a service to you at the highest quality and with the most effective results. You have every right to make sure they cater to your needs. If they have any problem with making sure they deliver on their end you should most definitely demand a refund!

As mentioned before, Algonquin has a lot of trainers and this does not mean they are the best trainers. It is imperative that you protect yourself and cover all of your bases when looking to hire a trainer to help you on your fitness journey. When choosing a personal trainer set up a consult, ask every question under the sun, research the trainer on their website (if they don’t have one, find a trainer that does), and above all make sure you are comfortable with them, that they have exactly what you are looking for and are willing to cater to your needs. Although Algonquin has some trainers that are not the best, they also have some trainers who are considered to be the best in the business. Do your homework and you can find an Algonquin trainer that can help you reach all of your fitness goals.
