When shopping for a new cordless drill many check out the local big box store and have several of the big brands to choose from plus some real inexpensive tools to consider. But, if you limit yourself to the big box stores you will miss out on the Panasonic drill line up. Panasonic has been making cordless tools for years and have a really top shelf selection of drills that are the tool of choice for many electricians, woodworkers, mechanical contractors and many more of the trades.

The Panasonic drill line offers a variety of what would be considered drills. The smallest would be the cordless screwdrivers. While not really used much for drilling, these handy little tools are great for assembly work, hobbies and any light weight application. They are available in 2.4 and 3.6 volt units.

Likely the most popular of the Panasonic drill line is their cordless drill drivers. The best selling of these is the Panasonic EY6432GQKW. This 15.6 volt tool offers plenty of power and yet is well balanced and light weight. The NIMH battery packs offer great run time and great overall battery longevity. Panasonic drill drivers are available in 12,15.6 and 18V tools with NiCad and NIMH batteries and 14.4V in the lithium tool.

Impact tools have really come on strong of late and the Panasonic drill line has several to choose from. They have the basic impact tool in both standard and lithium batteries. They also have a multi driver that is actually an impact, hammer drill, and a drill driver. There is also a digitally controlled unit that you can adjust stop points and then hit the trigger for another quarter of a turn. Very cool.

The last of the Panasonic drill line, but not the least is the hammer drills. Panasonic offers both a hammer drill and SDS rotary hammers. The hammer drill is good for smaller holes like 5/32″ and 3/16″ like you would use on a tapcon. The SDS tools can handle larger bits with ease. The smaller of the Panasonic SDS tools is rated at 1/2″ and larger tool is rated at 3/4″. If you have never compared tried an SDS hammer over a hammer drill, you don’t know what you are missing!

Panasonic has always lead the way in battery technology and the Panasonic drill line has certainly benefited from that. One thing I have found to be true with any cordless tool, is that they are only as good of the battery. Panasonic drill batteries tend to be on the expensive side. If your old tool is getting a little slow and the batteries aren’t holding much of a charge, you may be better off buying a whole new kit and selling your old drill and charger on ebay. You may find you can get a whole new tool for about $30 more than just the batteries.

Next time you need a cordless drill, consider giving one of these tools a try. You may have to wait a few days if you order on line, but you will great a great price on a great tool.
