Fear of Success For Writers
Ever heard the term “fear of success”? For years, I’ve listened to people talk about it, but never quite figured out what they actually meant.
In truth, many people do fear success, because they’re afraid they can’t live up to their achievements. As an example, think about suddenly waking up with five billion dollars in your your front door. When you open your front door, you find all your neighbors and friends gathered around, cheering your good luck. How are you going to live your life then?
Seriously imagine that for a moment. How will people’s expectations of you change? How will your expectations of yourself change? Can you handle the added pressure such a large sum of money puts on you? Can you live with the responsibility? Now, substitute money with momentous achievements in writing.
Think about how you made your previous writing a successful one. What brings you the determination and inspiration to write such an effective content? How did your readers appreciate your writings?
Isn’t that hard to do the same thing all over a again? What brings you to the point of writing such a successful content is what you need to recall and apply it again in your next writing tasks.
Many writers believe that making your writing a successful one was just an accident that you never knew it would happen. Moreover, you can’t repeat the same circumstances than before and now you are scared to write more.
Instead of worrying how to make your next writing a successful one, you should always believe in yourself that you can do better and that you are creative enough in dealing with your thoughts for your next content writing.
Fear of success can manifest in many ways for writers. Here are some signs to avoid:
Procrastination. Putting off projects, assignments and other activities that can help your career can be a sign of your fear of success. It’s a form of self-sabotage that keeps you from attaining achievements that you probably deserve.
Lack of discipline. The internal resistance to organizing your working activities can guarantee that you’ll have a tougher time completing assignments than you need to.
Laziness. Got a writing schedule that you keep passing on, choosing to sleep or watch TV instead? You know what that ensures, right? That you’re never going to get anything done.
Not investing in your work. The refusal to attend training, classes and seminars when they’re readily available, as well as avoiding investing in products that can help your productivity, such as a professional writing software, are further examples of this self-defeating behavior.
Other destructive behaviors. There are many other ways writers manifest the fear of success. All of them have one thing in common: they ruin your chances for getting the results you’re aiming for.
Why Self-Sabotage?
Why do writers subconsciously opt for self-sabotage when they do fear success? Many believe it’s because the negative behaviors give them a ready-made excuse for explaining away any failures they encounter.
