Tire Pressure Maintenance
Maintaining Tire Pressure is extremely important though many vehicle owners do not attach much importance to it though it is a very easy task once you get down to doing it. There are many types of simple and handy pressure gauges available to make it easy for us to measure the pressure of our vehicle. It not only saves us money by extending the life of the tires but also increases mileage dramatically which is all about improving the efficiency of the running of the vehicle.
The more often the tire pressure is checked the better it is for the vehicle. Monthly checking of pressure and inflation are a must. Ideally it should be done after the vehicle has run two to three miles. This will give you an accurate reading with the best tire pressure gauge. Inflation of the tires should then be done if necessary and pressure again checked after ten to fifteen seconds just to ensure that they are not over inflated. If the pressure is too high then air has to be released by pressing the tire valve stem till the correct pressure is reached. The valve stem caps should be secured on the tires whenever the active measurement of air pressure or inflation is not being done. All these should not take more than a few minutes of your time. Getting to do these regularly, will be best not only for the tire but for the vehicle as a whole.
Maintaining tire pressure should be commensurate with the number of miles covered. In places where the temperature undergoes vide variations; the tire pressure needs to be checked more often. It is even advisable to use Nitrogen gas for inflation since Nitrogen does not leak out as easily as air and therefore helps retention of the tire pressure close to the optimum. It is advisable to ensure that tire pressure is uniform in all the four tires except in cases where the front and back tires need different pressure. If uniform pressure is not maintained in the tires of a vehicle then there will be more stress on some tires and not on the others. This will lead to wearing of some tires earlier than it should. Many of us would have come up with this problem of wearing of tires prematurely; the main reason for this is that the tire pressure was not maintained uniformly for all tires. Where the front and rear tires need different pressures the front tires should have uniform pressure and back tires should have their uniform pressure.
It is definitely worthwhile to pay a little attention to a simple exercise of maintaining tire pressure periodically with the best tire pressure gauge which many people do not pay much heed to. It not only saves them money by way of increased tire life and improved mileage but also helps avert the impending danger of accidents. Compared to the benefits we get out of maintaining tire pressure regularly a small investment in the tire pressure gauge will be well worth it.
