Can You Afford Expensive Care For Your Dog?

This may not be a question that a dog owner thinks about when they get their new dog, or looks at the family pet romping through the yard. However it may be something to consider. Modern veterinary care can be costly.

This is especially true if you dog becomes ill. Unexpected bills can be tough for most folks. Lab studies, maintenance medications, surgeries, chemotherapy and other treatments can truly put a dent in the family budget.

There was a time when many of the common procedures that are available now were not even thought of. Large dogs are prone to bloat. This is a life threatening condition. Today it can be treated, but not for nickels and dimes. Treatment for bloat can run from two to five thousand dollars depending on where you live. If you dog breaks a leg, again the treatment can range from five hundred to twenty five hundred depending on whether or not they need surgery.

These are not drops in the financial bucket. They are major expenses. Often a dog owner must face the possibility of euthanasia rather than paying for the necessary care. Diabetes in dogs is another illness that requires life long care. Medications may not seem like a lot, but in the long run it can be a tidy sum.

Pet insurance is available for family pets. This will often alleviate the unpleasant task of having your pet euthanised. There are a lot of companies out there that can supply you with the insurance you need for your pet. Most will allow you to see any veterinarian you choose and although they may not pay the entire cost, they will take a big chunk of it. The same for human health insurance.

Dogs have climbed to a higher level on the family scale of importance. They are family members and owners want to insure that their fur kid gets the best treatment available. It doesn’t matter if it is a wonderful mutt from the shelter, or a high priced pedigree, they are still your kids.

Poisoning, cancer, vehicle accidents and emergency surgery can be expensive. If your dog gets ill in the middle of the night, it may cost you $100 to meet the vet at the clinic before you have any treatment at all. Those who don’t consider their pets a valuable part of their life, would just let the dog be ill. That is not the case in most instances.

With a portion of your well puppy annual shots and exams paid and your laboratory studies and x-rays taken care of, your mind can find some relief in knowing that you can get the best care available for your dog.

Sophisticated health care for your dog comes with a price. Many of us cannot afford that price and therefore the insurance will help. If you have multiple pets, each one requires their own policy, most have discounts for additional family members. Do your research and see if there is a company that will give you the coverage you need at a price you can afford.
