Practical Tips on Dry Skin Care

As part of looking good and feeling great, women tend to take care of their bodies more than men. As women, we spend on make-ups and skin-care products. We also go to health-care center to improve our skin. Simply put, women go a long way in order to make sure that their skin is well taken care of. But what if our skin is dry? What can you do to prevent dry skin?

Dry skin is most common during the winter months. It can also be caused by genetics or aging. Whatever the cause of our dry skin is, we have to find solutions to keep our body looking good and ourselves feeling great. Here are the dry skin care tips you can follow:

Dry Skin Care Tip #1: Cleansing. The best advice you can follow when finding the right cleansing product is to find one that your skin responds well to (and stick to it), hence you do not need to spend $50 dollars on a fancy wash. Do not use bar soap as it can dry your skin further.

Dry Skin Care Tip #2: Back to Basics. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Sufficient amount of water has to be present in your skin cells to make it healthier and to avoid drying. Eight glasses a day should do but more would not do any harm, especially if you have worse case of dry skin.

Dry Skin Care Tip #3: Cut back on shower time. There is nothing wrong with taking a bath, but you have to limit it as much as possible. Many dermatologists suggest that people with dry skin should only take a bath for 3 minutes and should only do it only one per day. Avoid hot baths too. Use warm water instead. Soap should only be used on certain parts of the body such as your underarm and groin.

Dry Skin Care Tip #4: Drying. After taking a bath, make sure that you pat your body dry instead of rubbing yourself with a towel. This way, you will not rub off the natural oil from your body and cause your skin to dry off further.

Dry Skin Care Tip #5 Exfoliate. Flaking is a bad effect of dry skin, which can be removed through exfoliating. However, exfoliating too often can worsen dry skin too. Once a week is enough. During bath, gently scrub your body to remove flakes. If you have the worst case of flaking, do not try to remove all the flakes in one bathing as it can damage the inner layer of your skin. Let the skin rest for at least a day or two and remove them carefully.

Dry Skin Care Tip #5 – Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Dry skin requires thorough skin care, year round but more importantly during colder months. Use skin-care products containing moisturizers from body soap to cream to keep your skin hydrated. Use heavier creams during colder months. Apply these to your body as often as necessary.
