A Look at Compaction Equipment
Waste management and recycling have never been more important than it is today, with even computers threatening to poison the environment. With the chemicals that are used in them they are considered to be “hazardous household waste”. Keeping such things as that in mind, here is some information about compaction equipment, where it is used and the trash compactor.
Medical and Hazardous Waste – These units are most often thought of as being refrigerator size and made of stainless steel due to its ability to remain clean, stainless steel does not hold odors. This type of compactor units are commonly used in the utility rooms of hospitals and medical facilities.
Restaurant and Food Waste – Larger units are customarily used in the kitchen area of family restaurants and cafeteria style establishments. They usually require a hydraulic lift cart to roll the container and empty it since the compacted material is much heavier than the single items that were put in it.
Home Use – Typical units are often mounted under the counter tops in household kitchens where special garbage bags are used to contain the waste until removal. These can be found in designer models and have a host of special features and options to suit the decorating ideas of the modern homemaker.
Outdoor – Include your typical Dumpster type which is tipped to empty it into a garbage truck. Stationary compactors which are detachable from the compactor and an empty is brought to exchange when removing the one that is full. This and the Vertical Outdoor compactors are preferred when the trash profile is made up of wet waste. Bales and Shredders can handle dry waste and make it more cost efficient by hauling off much greater amount of waste in a smaller package.
Recycling Equipment – Waste is usually managed in bales and the types of balers can include both vertical and horizontal balers. They can also be automated, and have options of closed or open end, and full eject. It depends entirely on the needs of the facility as to how large the equipment should be and how often it is scheduled for removal.
Cardboard Recycling – One of the uses of a vertical baler is to compress cardboard into tight bales and then bind them with straps that allow for easy removal and storage until they are processed in a recycling facility.
Along with cardboard recycling there is a great need by the corporate world of being required to properly destroy data. These machines must be able to sufficiently grind, chew or shred a range of materials from paper to date disks. All of which require special equipment and additional means of disposal once it is hauled away.
There are many types of compaction equipment and your choice will depend on your usage needs. There are indoor and outdoor units that cover a wide variety of waste management. A word of caution, however, be sure to open all containers and remove any lids before putting them into a trash compactor.
