Whether you’re on your way to a hot date or going home after a long, tiring day, what could be worse than having your car break down in some place, only to discover that you have a flat tire? Before you begin to panic, take a deep breath and try your best to calm down since obviously, nothing can help you but yourself, unless of course if you’re in the middle of the city where mechanics are just a call away. But what if you get stranded in the middle of nowhere? Or your phone’s dead? Changing tires isn’t only a man’s job. You can change tires too. With grace.

– Whether your car was given to you or bought by you, once you got it, take the time to read the manual. It isn’t there for display so better grab it as soon as you can before you get stranded somewhere else. Once you have done this, practice changing tires during your free time. Have your dad, husband or boyfriend show you how at first. Then when you get the hang of it, try it yourself. Do it until you can complete the whole process without anybody’s help.

– Next, locate the spare tire, the jack, and the other car tools needed to change tires. Make sure that you put it in a place where you can easily locate it even when everything’s dark. You can also buy disposable coveralls and hand gloves if you don’t want to get your clothes dirty and filthy with all the grease and dirt. Bringing a pepper spray canister kept inside your compartment and also inside your purse or bag will also be of great help if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. You’ll never know who you’ll come across with.

– If you feel that you have a flat tire, move your way to the side of the road where you can park it without obstructions. Put your lights on a hazard mode. Get all the necessary equipments and place the wheel clocks on both sides of the tire opposite of the flat one. Start taking off the hubcap and loosen the lug nuts before jacking up the car. Add a pipe over the end of the tire tool to get leverage so it will be easier for you to take the nuts off.

– Jack up the car until you get the proper position as per instructed by your car manual. If you were able to practice this lot of times, you’ll know how effortless it is even for a girl to do what everyone claims to be a man’s task. Hoist up the car until it can have room for the spare. Once you have removed the lug nuts, keep it somewhere safe. Put the spare tire on with the air valve facing outwards then screw on the nuts all throughout the wheel. Lower your car and tighten the nuts using the pipe you used for leverage.

And you’re good to go. Don’t forget to put all your tools inside your car and if you can, carry the spare tire too. You can always come back for it though if you think it’s too heavy for you or if you’re too tired.
