Most Christians go to church every Sunday. Okay not most, but still a significant majority. A young Christian has been to hundreds of sermons and gospel readings by the time he turns into an adult. Ask him or her how many times he or she has heard the priest talk about universal salvation, and he or she will tell you not very often. It’s rare for a Christian pastor to talk about universal salvation. Why? Simply put, the topic is too broad to discuss in a single sitting. If the sermon went the distance, people would grow board, yawn, and simply leave.

What is it about universal salvation that turns Christian pastors off? Well, it’s because to talk about universal salvation is to dig deep into the words of the Bible text. Take note, universal salvation isn’t about God saving every religion. That thing right there is Universalism. Universal salvation is far from universalism. It sounds the same, but those two are completely different things.

What is universal salvation?

Universal salvation is the belief that all human beings, every single person on Earth–a businessman, a house wife, a priest, a convicted murderer, the President of the United States–will be saved by Jesus Christ through the love of God. Yes, even that nasty old lady across the street.

Do you get the “other meaning” of this message. As a consequence of everyone being saved by Jesus Christ, no one is bound to end up in hell. Simply being alive and breathing is a ticket to the kingdom of God, to the gates of heaven, and there’s nothing the fires of hell is going to be able to do anything about it.

Let’s look at some Bible texts referring this topic.

“Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.” (Romans 5:18)

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men-the testimony given in its proper time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

“But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.” (John 12:32)

“…(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.” (1 Timothy 4:10)

The Bible says it clearly that God’s love “brings life for all men”. The salvation that is offered with the coming of Jesus Christ encompasses all. The problem is that most Christians aren’t ready to accept this Biblical fact, because it means you could be a non-Christian and still be saved. On the other hand non-Christians would be excited to hear this. But the Bible holds the truth, regardless of what everyone wants, that everyone will be saved by Jesus Christ in due time.

As a true Christian we must accept this fact. It is written in the Bible after all. God’s love affects us all, Christian and non-Christian alike.
