The sign that ordains peace and non-violence is always represented by the white colour. Everyone because of its pleasing characteristic universally appreciates white colour. This colour also signifies purity and innocence, the white dove signifies peace and is displayed on many peace related emblems. White colour is also religiously significant as the robes for most of the Catholic priests and nuns are of this colour. Many people also fancy white coloured cars and will not accept any other colour. White also has a spectacular brilliance, which is difficult to describe but can only be experienced. Artists also work on white canvas and are a colour that that display other colours to their maximum appeal.

The production of white light occurs in many ways, some of the sources of white light are sun, electric incandescence and so on. The sun produces white light. This white light comprises of seven colours; violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. This as we all no is called the VIBGYOR colours or the rainbow colours. Sun, electric incandescence and the others are mostly the ancient sources of white light; some of the modern sources are fluorescent lamps and light emitting diodes.

Certain objects reflect the colours of their surface emitting white light in comparison to their surroundings. In the world, mythology white is usually considered as a very lucky and auspicious colour. Where as the Chinese have a different opinion. In their culture, white represents death, which is a completely unlucky phenomenon. In the major world, the easiest way to make young children understand the meaning of opposites is by showing them white and black colours. The white and black colours represent opposites.

It was Newton who first discovered that white light is comprised of seven colours by performing his famous prism experiment. Until then it was taken that white is the basic colour and all other colours where produced by adding something to white. However, after this experiment it was clear that white light itself is comprised of these seven rainbow colours.

The most commonly used colours for contrast is none other than white and black. Not only are they just used to represent the contrasting features, they are also used to represent opposites like day and night, good and evil and so on.

The two ways to produce man made white light is by incandescence or black body radiations. Both of these procedures include the usage of high temperature. In these processes the bodies of atoms of specific temperature emits certain radiations, which are converted into white light. When we take the black body radiation as an example, we see that a black body of temperature 2,848 Kelvin only produces white light.

White is not only used to depict a colour. When we see in most of the western countries, they use the word white to describe or differentiate the citizens there. So be it expressing your sorrows or your happiness, be it showing your emotions, white is the like the most sought after colour.
