Alcohol, as most people know, has long since been the most effective social lubricant. It is in this context that many of us get acquainted with drinking. First, you go to a party and then have some. The less drastic among the ways to stop drinking is self control. This seems very simple: “I will stop drinking.” However, it becomes very difficult to do in practice. There is no clear cut guideline or manual to help you through the process. It is different for everyone, but there are only two things that will prove to be crucial to kicking the habit. First, do it now -tell yourself to stop drinking today. Do not give yourself allowances and don’t say, “I’ll start tomorrow, or next week, or after my friend’s party.” Second, commit to it and don’t rely on the fact that you have a second chance. Most people, after being sober for a while reward themselves with little drinks and then have to start over. Make the decision to stop drinking and be firm on it. If you start now and refuse to find an excuse to falter, then, you will stop drinking.
