Escape Teaching – Step by Step Plan to Replace Your Income
More than half of all teachers in UK are looking for a way to escape teaching.
A teaching qualification does not qualify you to do anything else, so most of these reluctant teachers are trapped in the job. They continue from year to year, always planning to escape one day.
Given the high unemployment rate in every country, any teacher who leaves teaching without having something else organised is out of their mind. You have to have a replacement income in place before you make the leap into the unknown.
Many teachers already have a partial replacement income from tuition and examination marking. The first step to escape teaching is to develop these income sources to the full. This will take two or three years.
Home tuition pays well on an hourly basis. It is possible to earn GBP20-30 an hour in most areas for GCSE and A2 tuition. Half of your profits will go in tax, so to work for less than this price range is total foolishness.
When you are starting as a home tutor the easiest way is to work for one or more of the tuition agencies. These charge parents less than individual tutors charge and take about 25% of the fee. The agencies are very attractive to p
arents because of their lower rates and because their tutors are vetted. They are less attractive to tutors, but when you are starting off they are your only option.
You need to decide whether you are going to work in your own home or in the tutee’s. Working in your own home means you have no travelling time or costs. Working in the tutee’s home will be more attractive to most parents, bringing you more business.
When you are making appointments, remember to leave sufficient time to travel from one tutee to the next. You can make appointments from 4pm until 9pm, allowing you to fit in four or five tutees in an evening, earning you GBP80 – 150 before tax and expenses.
Advertise in local newspapers and shop windows and your name will soon get around. After your first year tutoring you are unlikely to need to use the agencies at all.
Examination marking is the next area to develop. Apply to the major examination boards in September. You will hear between January and April whether they need your services. prescription cialis generic If your subject has a coursework component then you should also apply for coursework moderating positions. Coursework moderators work in April and May, so this fits in with the main GCSE exam marking very well.
Some exam boards have exams at Christmas, February, May and July, outside the frantic June exam marking season. Research and apply for these marking posts as well.
Each exam you mark will earn you about GBP600 after tax. It is possible to do two or three lots of marking at first, working up to ten or more as you become more experienced. GBP6000 is a long way towards a replacement for your teaching income.
You need additional revenue sources if you are to replace your teaching income completely. The obvious place to look is at online earning opportunities.
You really can make money online, not necessarily a fortune, but GBP500 a week is achievable without aspiring to be a guru. That would be another GBP26,000 a year – well on the way to replacing your teaching income.
You need to start the Internet earnings early on in your campaign to escape teaching.
You can earn cialis shelf life money by writing articles. Demand Studios pay $15 an article. As a teacher your grammar and level of language skills should enable you to pass their writing test. It is possible to write between six and ten articles a day, with practice. That is another $90 – $150 a day, before tax.
As another string to your online bow you should start a blog. Your blog can be about anything you feel qualified to write about. It can make you money from advertising and from advertisers paying you to write posts and reviews. This income will take a few years to develop, so start your blog immediately, rather than when you actually leave teaching.
If you go all out for some or all of these options you will have a replacement for your teaching income, without ever having to find another traditional job.
