Pregnancy and the Holidays, It Can Be Easy
The holidays are one of the most hectic and crazy times of the year. It’s hard enough to deal with the lunacy of the holiday season normally, when you add in additional stresses, it can be almost impossible to keep your sanity.
Having a baby is one of the most hectic and crazy time on a woman’s life. It’s hard enough to deal with the physical and emotional toil that pregnancy can have normally, when you add in additional stresses it can be almost impossible to keep your sanity.
Now take a moment and try to imagine what it would be like to be pregnant, while having to deal with the rigors of the holiday season! This can be a feat that could drive you to the madhouse. Of course, if you do it the right way, you can still enjoy all the holiday season has to offer, while also enjoying all the great things that come with the experience of having a baby. In fact, some women claim that the holidays are the best time to be pregnant, you have unlimited amounts of food, people are all in great spirits, and everyone is excited about the joy of giving. You can share that special joy in a whole new way, as you prepare to give the ultimate gift, new life to a little one.
One of the first ways that you can make things a little easier on yourself, is to buy a day planner. It doesn’t matter if its electronic, software-based, something online or good old fashioned paper in a leather binder. You need to make sure that you are not overloading yourself, and you must make sure that you are keeping up with the needs of your pregnancy. First, schedule ALL of your doctor’s appointments at once for the next three months. Remember that the holidays are busy for everyone; you want to make sure that you have the appointments that you need before their schedules fill up. Then make sure that you put in the dates and times of your showers, classes, and any special considerations that are part of the pregnancy. Don’t forget to schedule work events and time for yourself as well (and time for your partner). Now that you have these things on the calendar, you can put in the time you will devote to other things like shopping, family events and such. Lastly it’s time to put in community events and social functions that are important to you, as well as any special events that you and your partner would like to attend. Congratulations, you now have a workable and reasonable holiday calendar that will also accommodate your pregnancy.
Now that you have your schedule you need to cover the bases of how to do the “holiday thing” while you are going berserk physically and emotionally. First understand that great holiday fashion is not likely to be found on the maternity department but that doesn’t mean you have to go without being glamorous. Stick with the basics that you can get in pregnancy clothes, winter white, basic black, holiday red and green, passionate purple and striking silver are all great colors for this time of year and will look wonderful in “full size”. Just make sure that you accessorize well and you will be fine.
For drinking occasions you may find it difficult to say no, but you can make it easier by enjoying the tastes of the season. Winter juices, sparkling ciders and non-alcoholic wines and champagnes are excellent choices, as are flavored soft drinks.
Finally let’s not forget about shopping. This is the easiest one of all. Grab your laptop and use the Internet to do most of your holiday giving. If you are unable to accommodate that special someone this way you can always ask a friend or family member to pick up certain gifts, or even better, take advantage of major department stores’ gift selector services or personal shoppers.
You can have a great holiday while having a wonderful pregnancy. All you have to do is plan well and look at things with a slightly different eye then you have always done and you will be great!
