Setting up a Home Cinema

Home audio and visual systems have always been popular, right back to the good old days of VHS. Thanks to the improvements in technology and the cost involved in producing the equipment the price of home theatre systems has plummeted in recent years. At the moment you should easily be able to purchase a complete home cinema system for well under £1500 and perhaps a basic home theatre system for a good deal under £700.

There is no doubt that the increase in popularity, and hence production of flat screen panels, speakers, surround sound systems and subwoofers has benefited the consumer massively. A few years ago this sort of sophisticated equipment would only have been affordable to the most well-off consumer, however with the recent drop in price it now means that high quality home cinema is available to pretty much everyone. The home cinema market parallels that of the home computing market in that as technology has improved exponentially there has been a steady, and in some cases dramatic, decrease in price.

Part of the affordability of this new audio visual equipment in in part thanks to the integration of more powerful microchips into one smaller and faster unit. This means that we can now benefit from using less space to achieve much more. As a result we now how flatter, stronger speakers, wireless speakers, integration with other media such as the internet, ipods and HDTV home cinema systems.

If you are looking to set up your own home cinema system then there are several aspects for you to consider. Firstly, make sure that there is adequate space in your home for all the equipment you are going to need. Don’t think that the room has to be used holey for cinema use as it could also be combined with home computing use. There will be home cinema systems designed especially for smaller spaces so a little internet research will help you to find the specification you are looking for.

A good home cinema system should combine both a high quality audio and visual experience. When thinking about setting up a home cinema it is easy to concentrate just on the quality of the screen. It is important that you don’t neglect to consider your sound system as good quality speakers will enhance your overall enjoyment considerably. Consider also the size of your room and where you are likely to be sitting when watching the television. This will help to inform your decision as to what size of screen you are likely to buy. The last thing you would want is to have your viewing dominated by an overlay large screen. This may sound counter intuitive, however think about when you go out to your local cinema – no one likes to sit on the front row for a reason!

If you are unsure about any aspect of buying a home cinema system then it is well worth getting in touch with your local audio visual equipment specialist as they will be well placed to advise you.
