5 Ways to Keep the Weight Off
For those who are overweight and obese it can be a real struggle to keep the weight off. We all get sick of going to the doctor and hearing him admonish us about our inability to get the pounds off and keep them off. We know he’s right. After all, obesity can contribute to some pretty scary healthy problems like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. But knowing that doesn’t make losing the weight any easier. We still have to fight against our bodies in a constant struggle. To say it’s difficult is an understatement. The only way to truly get the weight of and keep it off is to dedicate ourselves to changing the way we live. Day in and day out we need to be committed to eating right and being more active.
One thing everyone can do right now is to find something fun and active to do. Don’t call it exercise if that word makes you cringe. Boring step aerobics isn’t going to get the job done if you can’t stand to listen to that trainer one more time. Look for something new. Close combat training seem like a good fit? Then get a martial arts dvd and get busy! Learning new moves that you are excited about can help you tremendously. No one says you have to do the same thing all time. Never tried yoga? See what it’s like. Try everything you can think of and switch it up when you get bored.
Truly change your diet. Here we go again, I bet you’re thinking. But you don’t necessarily have to deny yourself. That’s the wrong mindset to have. Instead think about letting yourself try all sorts of new things. Healthy things, new dishes, exotic fruits and weird looking vegetables. Have fun and make eating an experiment in finding what else you like that you don’t even know about yet. There will still be opportunities to enjoy your old favorites. You don’t have to deny your cravings, but you also don’t have to overindulge because you think you’re not allowed to have those yummy things you really want. Change your attitude about food entirely.
Give yourself a break and get a good night’s sleep. You are not fooling anyone with that crazy schedule you keep, and if you are depriving yourself of sleep you are doing more harm than good. You’ll feel sluggish all day long and you won’t have the energy to do aerobic activities that burn calories. You can’t perform without rest and recovery, so don’t even try it.
Stay positive. Everyone has his or her shortcomings, but without the right perspective you will just rob yourself of opportunities. Acknowledge when something doesn’t work for you, and move on. Learn and be happy to know more about yourself. Dwelling on the negative feelings and thoughts that creep up can bring on added stress and depression-two things that can be binge eating triggers for emotional eaters.
