Security is an important issue for copiers and digital printers. Recent reports have exposed data retrieval from digital office equipment hard drives. Using downloadable software from the internet copier hard drives can be hacked into. Toshiba Japan has developed a new hard drive technology in response to concerns and data protection. WIPE is Toshiba’s response to recent concerns over the storage of data on Photocopying and office products. Encryption of hard disks have been used as the traditional technique was to protect sensitive information on the hard disk photocopier machines.

Toshiba WIPE technology goes a step further by automatically deleting the information on the performance down and removes the hard drive data key from the photocopier and printer systems. The new technology has also interested in computer suppliers and WIPE works by deleting the internal key on the hard disk and creates a powerful new protecting stored data other than standard deletion. 

Originally developed for Toshiba Photocopiers, Wipe technology is of interest to other manufacturers of copiers, such as Ricoh and Konica Minolta. Security is a hot topic in the photocopier industry after the recent reports by CBS have shown how easy it is to retrieve sensitive data from old hard copy.



Toshiba have stated that with office copiers and printing systems, the disk capacity and performance to use a highly productive document imaging environment requires security. Many organizations recognize the critical importance of maintaining security in the document image is stored in copier and printer systems. Wipe is a technology that can automatically invalidate a HDD security key when the device is switched off immediately all of the data makes it unintelligible to the drive.
