This is usually done on the ground level so that they do not have to go upstairs and down all day. Wider than normal doorways cater for those who have to be wheeled in by wheelchair and the toilet normally has a lot of space around it to accommodate it too. At the sides, and firmly anchored, will be grab rails so that the person is able to deal with their needs without others being present.

If the house is not big enough for an annex then it may be possible, with wider staircases, for a chair lift to go in. This allows the person to go where they want without having a fuss made over them. Indeed, those who have to be helped to do everything often become irritated because of it. Making it so that they can become more independent is surely a great way to keep everyone happy in the first place.

It is obvious then that the designer plays an integral part in the building and designing of a new home or building. By finding someone from the local area, they may have more knowledge about rules and regulations pertaining to the place than those from out-of- state.
