Fun Baseball-Themed Teen Boy’s Bedroom

Is your son absolutely and totally enthralled by everything baseball? If so, then you can definitely create a fun baseball-themed teen boy’s bedroom that he’ll simply adore.

Involve Your Son

As a rule of thumb, any time that you are decorating a child’s bedroom, you need to get the child’s input first. Get your son involved in creating his baseball bedroom. Does your son have a particular team that he is crazy about? Find out what he likes and what he doesn’t. He is, after all, the one who will be living in the room, so be sure to give him his say. As an added bonus, if he feels like he’s involved in the room’s creation, he’s more likely to keep the room clean, organized, and neat.

Team Colors

Next, take a look at the team’s colors. For instance, the Oakland A’s have a color palette of white, golden yellow, and hunter green, while their arch rivals (the L.A. Dodgers) have the colors white and royal blue. Each professional team has their own colors, but all of them share a common color – white. And while white is always a safe color for the wall, be sure to choose an easy to clean white semi-gloss latex. It’s a bit more expensive but it will stand up to dirt and grime like no other – and we all know that teenage boys get dirty! Cues from the team colors can be used for accents. For example, if your son’s favorite team is the Giants (whose colors happen to be black and red), then you might paint the trim in the room, such as floor boards, door frames, and window frames, in black and then paint the room-side surface of the door and closet doors red.

Team Logo

Create a true team-inspired atmosphere by blowing up the team’s logo and creating a stencil from it. Go up from floor level around three feet and stencil a border around the room in one of the team’s chosen colors. You might also blow up a huge logo to create a focal point on one wall.

Furniture and Furnishings

Next, think about the furniture in your son’s room. You need not paint each and every single piece to go with the color scheme of the team. Obviously, you may wish to paint any furniture items that clash. But you will find that there are other ways that you can tie the furniture in to the room. With the bed, for example, which is likely the largest piece within the room, you might choose a baseball-themed comforter or bedspread in the team colors, or just stick with a solid color that goes with the team colors that have been selected. For the dresser, cut out a felt pennant shape in the team colors to run along the top of the dresser. Make a slip cover for the desk chair that ties in with the team colors.

Use additional baseball-themed paraphernalia to round out the decorating theme. A team-colored wire basket holding a baseball glove, bat, and ball can be a great accent for a corner of the room. Baseball posters are also great.

The main focus of this project to create a fun teen boy’s bedroom for a baseball fan is to make the room livable. You want your son to feel comfortable in his room and to enjoy his surroundings. Keep it simple and easy for him to maintain. And remember – his room is all about him, not about your fancy decorating skills!
