Protective Clothing – An Assurance To Worker Safety On Construction Site
Unlike any other working environment, it is the construction industry that has maximum number of accidents. Despite the fact that there are some sites such as residential remodeling site where protective measures are at their peak, accidents occur. Similarly, when you go for residential additions, the contractor ensures the safety of the site. Yet, accidents at construction site are quite frequent. A possible reason here can be mistakes on part of employees or workers. It seems quite impossible to prevent mistakes altogether, however, with protective clothing you can ensure minimum damage.
The normal items included in safety clothing are things like hats, steel capped shoes, safety glasses and so on. Though not a complete protection, these items protect the worker from serious injuries. For instance, a hard hat will reduce head injuries that occur as a result of falling objects.
Similarly, gloves prevent hand injuries that can take place due to electric shocks or cuts. As for the protection of foots, proper footwear protects against slips or injuries. A head helmet, gloves and proper footwear are the essential part of a construction worker’s clothing. Protective clothing will not only help against frequent injuries, but will also protect against big accidents.
The growing concern of proper clothing at construction site has considerably decreased the incidence of fatal injuries. Today, the construction workers are conscious about their own safety and therefore take measures to protect themselves. This is why they execute their construction plans only after understanding the problems or risks that they will encounter.
It was found that the common construction accidents involved handling errors, or slips. Although these types of accidents are also quite common in industries, construction sites have a bigger risk. Even the incidence of injuries is much higher at a construction site than in an industrial setup.
A possible reason is that construction sites have more accidents as a result of falling from heights. Moreover, moving and falling objects pose a great risk to the workers as well as to the bystanders. This is the reason why construction site is secluded and general public is forbidden to enter or pass near them. Also there is greater risk of contact with moving machinery, or the possibility of electrocution.
It is reported that a greater proportion of accidents occur in construction industry than in any other industry. However, according to different surveys, it’s an outcome of under-reporting less serious construction injuries. Many a times, less serious accidents are not even reported. In any case, there is a growing awareness for adherence to safety precautions at construction sites.
Even with the most adequate facilities provided, completely avoiding construction site accidents is quite difficult. You can be on your guard, but you never know when a defective scaffold collapses, or when a machine such as a crane begins malfunctioning. No matter what type of accident occurs, as workers, you should be prepared. In this regard, protective clothing is your only resort. In case an accident occurs, you will get minimum injuries or possibly remain unscathed.
