Inspiring Children Using NLP
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is one of the most successful therapies in psychology today. Initially when it was introduced by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s, it was rejected by conventional social scientists for lack of empirical evidence, but the wonders it is doing today, especially in the area of child psychology, are exceptional.
NLP basically believes that as human beings we can never know for sure what reality is. We only have perceptions of reality and we respond to it according to our “neurolinguistic maps”. These maps determine how we react to certain issues and our senses determine how we act.
The most important aspect of NLP is how it understands different people’s reaction to different senses. One person may be a “sound person” while another may be a “touch person”. Depending on these particular traits, a person will respond in a positive manner if taught through the right sense.
NLP therapy for kids in Buckinghamshire teaches that when you feel disempowered and helpless, you need to focus on the present. The whole point of NLP therapy is to make children imagine how they would feel when they are working at their optimum level. Therapists for children believe that this would help them block unwanted thoughts that prevent them from acting as they should.
NLP therapists for kids in Buckinghamshire focus on the language a person uses and the difference between nouns and verbs are defined clearly. For example “I wish I hadn’t made this decision” has a negative connotation. Nouns such as “decision” have finality to it. Verbs on the other hand are transitional. In NLP therapy, the sentence would be changed into a form that uses “decide”, and then children would be asked to focus on the verb “re-decide”.
There are numerous children who are scared of public speaking. Child therapists would ask children to compare the times they feel nervous or uncomfortable, to the times when they are happy and carefree. Then they would be asked to use these positive feelings to overcome their fear of public speaking. For example, a child would be asked to imagine his surprise birthday party that his friends threw for him just before he mounts a stage to speak publicly.
We all have goals. A child would want the latest gaming device that his parents promised him if he scores well in his exams. But there are always distractions that make a person stop studying for example, a friend’s party, a dinner out with the family or shopping at the mall, when it is really just the time to study, are all deviations from the goal. A child therapist in Buckinghamshire would design a session where children are taught to blur out distractions by making the goal clearer. The clearer the goal would be the less you would want to deviate from it.
NLP therapy is basically a journey where you learn to control your senses and emotions and line it up to use it positively.
