Each year, The Economist magazine produces a list of the world’s most liveable cities based on a range of different factors. From health expectancy to job security, these ten countries are those which achieved the highest scores (out of 100) in 2010.

1. Vancouver, Canada. Keeping its place at the top of the list for 2009, Vancouver was ranked first in 2010 largely due to the extensive preparation work that took place for the 2010 Winter Olympics, with a score of 98.

2. Vienna, Austria. Similar to Vancouver, Vienna maintains its second spot on this list from 2009 with a 97.9 rating and is one of only two European cities to make the top 10. The capital of Austria, Vienna ranked first on the list in 2005 and has the interesting aspect of having its centre classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

3. Melbourne, Australia. The first of four Australian cities to make the 2010 list, Melbourne also retains its position, this time as the third most liveable city in 2010, with a rating of 97.5.

4. Toronto, Canada. Located in the south east of Canada and home to the famous CN Tower (the largest structure in the world until 2007), Toronto received a rating of 97.2 and is the second of three Canadian cities to feature on the list this year.

6. Helsinki, Finland.
