Cleaning Window Blinds is Easier Than You Think!

No one looks forward to taking care of housework. Cleaning the house can become even more tedious when it comes to the tricky task of cleaning the windows. This is a hard enough job in itself and that’s before we even get round to the window blinds which often don’t get cleaned until they are completely covered in dust to the point where it is difficult to tell what the original colour was! When cleaning the inside of your windows it is important that you don’t neglect the window blinds as there is little point in having windows at all if you can’t see out of them due to constantly getting covered with dust and grime.

Just as there are different types of window blinds there are also different methods for cleaning each. The simplest types of blinds to clean are those made from aluminium which can be taken care of by simply using a duster or dusting cloth.

To make your life easier it would be advisable to regularly clean your blinds as the longer you leave them the more chance there is for stubborn grime to build up. The harder you have to work to clean your blinds the more chance there will be of you damaging them due to overzealous cleaning. Even if you clean your house once every week all it takes is a few moments to run a duster over you blinds as it can make a huge difference in the long term and once you have clean blinds, it means you don’t need to spend as much time cleaning the windows.

If your window blinds have got to the point where a noticeable amount of dust has built up on the slats then the best tool you can use to start with is a vacuum cleaner, providing you have the appropriate accessories. This will be the quickest way to clean them and should leave behind dirt and grime that can be easily removed using a duster.

For marks that are more difficult to remove you may wish to make use of more specific cleaning tools such as a chemically treated dust cloth. These are especially good for taking care of the tricky areas between the slats that often require a little extra scrubbing. These are the sort of jobs where a damp cloth or damp rag isn’t quite up to the task.

The blinds that can be a bit more awkward to clean are those made from wood. Wooden plantation shutters can be difficult to clear but this is far from impossible. The most important thing to remember when cleaning wooden blinds is that you must not use water as this risks damaging the slats. In this case the best option would be to use a vacuum cleaner followed by a dry duster. When rubbing the blinds down with a duster try to do it in a constant pattern that follows the grain of the wood.

So you see the task of cleaning your blinds isn’t as tedious as you may have first thought. With constant brief maintenance you are making the overall ask of cleaning your house much easier and quicker.
