Games For 3 Year Olds to Entertain, Occupy, And Wear Them Out!

Games for 3 year olds should be simple to play. They shouldn’t have too much structure and details for the kids to try to remember in order to play the game. You might be throwing a birthday party for young children, or find yourself with several little ones to entertain. Either way, if you’re looking for some suitable games to entertain the troops, occupy their time, and wear them out, here are some great options that you might want to consider.

MUSICAL CHAIRS – Line up enough chairs as there are children in a back-to-back fashion. As music plays in the background, have the children walk in a circle around the chairs. When the music stops, each child must sit down in an empty chair. Remove one chair and repeat the process. Continue in this fashion until only one chair is left and one child successfully sits down in that final chair.

PASSING THE HOT POTATO – This game is a perennial favorite with kids and there’s no need to only use potatoes. You could easily adapt this game to any party theme. For example, “Hot Kitty” could be a stuffed toy that looks like Hello Kitty, thus it would tie into a Hello Kitty Party. Start by have all the kids sit or stand in a circle. While playing music in the background, tell the kids to pretend that the potato is so hot that they have to pass it off as quickly as possible. When the music stops, whoever is left holding the potato is out. The game continues until only one child remains, who shall be declared the winner. To occupy the little ones who are out and give them a sense of still participating in a game, you could give them a potato that they can just pass around to each other. To keep things under control, you might consider having a teen supervise this activity.

KEEP THE BALLOON IN THE AIR – Give each child a blown up balloon and have them all line up on the start line. On “Go” have them all walk/run to the finish line while tapping, hitting, patting, their balloon to keep it in the air. It falls to the ground and doesn’t break, that child may pick it up and resume the relay. If the balloon falls to the ground and breaks, you can have that child be out, return to the start line and get another balloon, or have someone rush a balloon to him or her and resume the race. Whoever reaches the finish line first is the winner.

THEME PINATA – This is an old favorite and generally brings lots of giggles, cheers, and happy faces. To help tie this game into your party, be sure to pick a pinata that coincides with your theme. You can opt to blindfold and spin the child around once if you wish or just, let them see their target and take a swat. Each child takes a turn hitting the pinata with a bat or broomstick. Eventually it will break and all the children will run to scoop up the contents and gather their booty.

SUMMARY – Keep it simple! The good thing about games for 3 year olds is that they don’t have to be complex. You don’t have to buy a book on party games either. Opt for the good old-fashion games that you and/or your parents played, as they are still great today. Update them by giving them a twist to coincide with your theme and you’ll find you can create a lot of fun for everyone.
