You Will be Happier With Your Home if You Make These Simple Changes

Few things in the world are worse than living in a home that you don’t like. There could be nothing wrong with the house per se; it might actually be palatial and the envy of many. But to you, it could feel plain and a bit old fashioned. If you find yourself constantly wishing you had your best friend’s house; or dreaming of winning a complete home makeover, it is likely that you will not be happy in your house until you shed the old look. This is something you can easily do, with a little guidance here and there. The results will be so impressive you’ll wonder why you didn’t know about it earlier!

The best part about these decor changes is that they will not eat into your savings. Most of the materials are inexpensive and some you already have in the house.

It is not true that fairies that pick up after you actually exist
How neat is your home? It is easier to live in a room that is free of clutter. If you spend more hours tidying up rooms than on any other task, you need to apply a strategy to keep the clutter away. For this, you must determine why the clutter is there in the first place. Could it be because no one in the family picks up after themselves? Or do you lack enough storage space? If it’s the former, you will need to come up with incentives to ensure that no one leaves items lying around when they are done using them. You may need to coerce them with little gifts or cancel a privilege for leaving rooms tidy to become a habit. If however, it is a space issue, you may need to invest in extra storage. Pull-out cabinets, corner shelves and under-the-bed drawers will all add precious space for your items to go into.

Give away or sell items
In most homes, occupants constantly accumulate items that are seldom used. Clothing items you’ve outgrown, faulty gadgets, devices that you no longer use because you replaced them with bigger ones or something you bought because it was the trend at that time but was not really necessary, make this list. Consider giving away these items to friends or charity. You can also plan for a yard sale. You’ll be amazed by the percentage that turns up for the sale and pleased with the extra cash you’ll make at the end of it all.

Give a new coat of paint
There is something about freshly painted walls that somehow lifts one’s spirits. If it is not within your budget to paint all the walls, focus on just one or two. Paint it in one of your favorite colors or in a color that reflects your theme or style but keep it within the color scheme, either in a complementary or contrasting way.

Give color to the floor with an area rug
Buy a couple of area rugs to make your home warm and inviting. Modern area rugs are eye catching and affordable. The area rug you go for should complement your new wall color. For a truly cozy and classy look, throw in a colored Flokati rug. It will give the room a welcoming feel.

All the above will not only make your home more inviting, they will make you happier too.
