After 25 years of dealing with one company you’d think there would be some sour grapes to share…hmmm…let me think…nope!

If you’ve ever had a 25 years relationship you can probably relate to what I’m saying about that seeming like a lifetime.

When I started with Erie in 1986 they had just finished settling up a 20+million dollar claim for a tornado that stormed through kane,pa. The word on the street was that Erie paid claims without even seeing the damaged properties. Word was that Erie adjusters were loaded onto pickup trucks and 4×4’s to go see the damaged property. If you happened on an adjuster and told him your home was gone…he simply added 5-10% to the total you had you home insured for and cut you a check…on the spot! Clients have told me about how they never had to argue for one cent during the whole episode. When I asked one of the adjusters why they were adding to the total amount of insurance he said…”these folks have been through enough, we don’t want them to have to come back asking for more money” Oh my gosh…does that ever happen ? In real life ?

Here in little old Bradford Pa in 1999 we experienced a smaller scale version of a disaster, but a disaster nontheless. A severe rainstorm dropped nine inches of rain on Bradford in little over an hour. Everything that could flood…did flood. Many parking lots at factories were flooded halfway up car doors. Within hours Erie had adjusters on the scene. We ran radio ads all weekend to notify clients to have their cars towed to a local body shop. The next day Erie adjusters set up shop there and started paying claims. All you needed to do was stop out and pick up your check. The majority of the cars were totalled by Erie. Erie felt that if the airbag sensors under the seats were damaged in any way they couldn’t let clients drive those cars off the lot. Many of Erie’s competitors were nowhere near as generous with their claim paying. When the Erie adjusters were leaving town after five days, many of the other companies adjusters were just showing up to start paying claims. Another great time to be an Erie insurance agent! The line that formed at my office that year who wanted to buy Erie auto insurance was incredible.

So…in a nutshell, you want to inquire about Erie Insurance? Take it from a 25 year veteran you’ve made a good choice.
