Your family home should be able to hold a family, and the state needs to know how many children you have as there is a limit for fostering. The state of Texas, says you can only have a minimum of six children that are under 18, unless they are all under the age of five then you can have more.

The Next Steps

When this class has finished, and you known you have what they need, there is a further 20 hours of training needed. Through this further training they will give you tips and tell you what problems you could face when fostering or adopting a child. They will provide you with suggestions in knowing how to handle it. They will provide further information in ways you can go through the system, and they will also give you footage on what might happen once you foster a child. When these classes are passed, a certificate will be given to you, you will need to give it to your local office, and from there further classes are needed, such as CPR and water safety requirements. When you have finished this, contact the Department of Family services, and then they will come and meet with you in your home.

In order to get your home reading can be a scary and nervous time, because you want to get everything perfect for the visit, but it might not all be as bad as you make it out to be. The agency will give you a list that you need to cover, ensure that it is all done before they arrive, and you wont experience any problems. Once your house is in order and they are happy with it, you will then discuss what age you would like to adopt and foster, and the type of problems that you can handle.

Once the home visit is completed a long with the study, you are required to wait for the outcome, and this can be anxious time for you. But, once the department sees and reads the study, they will give you the answer that you are hopping for, and they should be able to tell you when you can take in a child.
