My 1st house, when I wed had an open plan kitchen and dining room. We then sold that house and bought one with a divided kitchen and dining room. I was so excited and wanted to complete a fashionable and grand look in there. I needed just the right style of dining furniture and spent ages reading magazines, looking at websites and window shopping. Even though, the dining room was going to be used for formal occasions, I was also determined not to let it appear frigid, stuffy and monotonous. We likewise decided to purchase the best quality dining sets we could afford, knowing that it would serve us well for many years to come.

Who ever had crafted the table had done an first-class job as the grain and finishing of the wood was beyond flawlessness. We had ruled out darker woods like walnut and mahogany in favour of lighter shades like beech, maple and oak. The table also extended out so I could fit other people if needed. The feel of the wood was so soft. My brand new dining furniture could only be described as practical, refined and contemporary.

The chairs we chose had stitched leather backs and seats and the same golden oak legs as the table. The light wood combined with leather just finished off the contemporary look. It was a great effect.

To complete the look, we also chose a matching sideboard with some small storage cabinets. That gave me all the storage space I needed for glasses, crockery, cutlery, table linens, candles and all the other small things belonging to the dining room.

The dining room really was starting to look like something out of a high street magazine. The oak dining furniture glows with life and when we entertain, it is the centre of curiosity and wonder. My favoured room in the house is now the dining room. The oak furniture was worth every penny.

What really helped me to find the perfect furniture was the internet. By using a search engine I was able to compare prices, suppliers, designs and brands. This helped me to narrow my choice down.
