8 Dressings To Spice Up Your Diet Meals
CHANGING TASTES
After reading this, your bland old diet snacks will never seem the same again. Sitting here in front of my keyboard, I can imagine you eating the weight loss sandwich you made five minutes ago. What is it, Lettuce, Tomato, half a hardboiled Egg between dry Rye Slices? – boooring!
I sympathize, I’ve been there, and still watch my weight with the same sort of slimming cuisine, but with a difference. On an impulse after almost giving up on my reducing diet, and on a shopping trip to the supermarket a couple of weeks ago, I suddenly had the taste for something I had been missing; in fact a taste for things I hardly ever had or thought of before-sauces. Not sauces for the sake of stocking sauces, but dressings en masse for a reason.
I realized that if I had previously used the sauces that were in front of me on that supermarket shelf, I would have enjoyed my slimming diet snacks of the past eight weeks a lot more, and perhaps reduced the after meal craving to carry on eating.
LICK YOUR LIPS BRO’
I looked at the containers in a couple of rows. First I picked up a bottle of Tomato Ketchup, then French Mustard; I remembered that hot vinegary taste. Why I hadn’t thought of Fat-Reduced Mayo, I’ll never know, but it went into my trolley. Sweet Chili Sauce, I’ll have to use that sparingly and not every day then it wouldn’t do any harm. It is those tastes that I missed, the tastes that will satisfy me after my small meals.
THE ORIENTAL TOUCH
In the next row I saw the Kikkoman’s Soy Sauce and knew that a little splash on my diet snack of half-cup of brown rice would make me feel as if I had finished the pot. And Oyster Sauce, if I add that, a couple of star anis, and some Kikkoman’s to a pint of water, I could stew my Chicken leg Chinese style.
The way to apply sauce or mustard to a Whole Wheat or Rye Bread sandwich is to spread a thin layer to inside slices of the bread; that way you only use a little, but have maximum impact on your taste buds. If you like a little bite use English Mustard the same way.
Once you get used to kiddy portions, a small bowl of whole wheat spaghetti with some pesto sauce is a great filler and won’t pork you up with a shovel full of calories.
If you are sensible about the amount of sauce you apply to your meals, bearing in mind some do contain sugar, you won’t suffer the consequences, and always read the label before you buy.
When I was a kid, my big brother used to put ketchup on his salad, much to the disgust of my mother and the rest of the table, but now as I enter my kitchen ready for my midday weight loss meal, it doesn’t seem such a bad idea.
